Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Role Purpose

Provide support to critical care nurses and physicians in the remote care of ICU patient populations across the BJC System. Enables the critical care team to provide immediate care and surveillance to ICU level admissions through rapid waveform detection, medical record review, admission into Tele ICU platform. Reviews and documents laboratory data, ventilator data, and compliance of best practice protocols of care directed at improved outcomes. Collaborates with the bedside support teams (unit clerks and monitor techs) to ensure life saving devices are appropriately applied and reviewed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains patient census for assigned HSO's to facilitate ICU level surveillance and use of clinical decision support tools. Assist in the management of patient information across the Tele ICU Center.
  • Applies waveform detection to ensure immediate care and continued surveillance is provided to all ICU admissions across multiple BJC HSO's. Identifies and reports to Tele ICU RN electronic trending issues on admission and on an ongoing basis.
  • Retrieves patient data from clients multiple clinical information systems and enters it in eCare Manager Application (eCM) timely and with accuracy to allow Tele-ICU clinicians to diagnose and facilitate the remote treatment of patients Continuous chart review to gather and validate patient demographics, laboratory data, APACHE data elements, and best practice protocol standards of care.
  • Contribute to APACHE data collection by Tele ICU team of all ICU admission to support benchmarking of quality indicators including but not limited to mortality, length of stay, ventilator days and best practice protocol compliance.
  • Provide timely and professional communication to critical care physicians and nurses. Ensure electronic systems are maintained in the remote monitoring center to provide continuous surveillance of ICU level patients in state of the art applications.
