The HIV Prevention Health Educator plans, implements, and evaluates community health programs focused on reducing HIV/STI transmission and promoting testing, PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis), and supportive care.

Core Responsibilities

  • Outreach and Prevention: Organizes and assists Linkage Coordinator and Prevention Coordinator with testing and preparation for events.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collects and analyses data to identify community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluation programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies, and environment.
  • Educational Planning: Plans and provides educational opportunities for health personnel, and prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials to stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Public Health Emergency Response: In the event of a public health emergency, participates in emergency response activities as directed.

Additional Information:

The DPH Commissioner and agency leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being.

The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience in public health education or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Hlth Educator 1 (HCP030) or position equivalent.
