To thrive as a Health Information Management (HIM) Technician, a solid understanding of medical terminology, coding systems (like ICD-10 and CPT), and health record management is essential, usually supported by an associate degree or certificate in HIM. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, release of information software, and recognized certifications such as RHIT or CCS are typically required.
