How much do high purity welding jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 10, 2026, the average hourly pay for high purity welding in the United States is $23.26, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.51 and $26.20 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is high purity welding?

High purity welding is a specialized process used to join metals in environments that require extremely clean and contaminant-free welds. This technique is essential in industries like semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and food processing, where even minute impurities can compromise product quality or safety. High purity welders use methods such as orbital welding and TIG (GTAW) under controlled conditions to ensure minimal contamination and oxidation. Stringent protocols, including cleanroom environments and rigorous material handling, are followed to maintain purity standards. The result is a weld that meets strict industry specifications for cleanliness and integrity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a High Purity Welder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a High Purity Welder, you need advanced welding skills, knowledge of industry standards (such as ASME or AWS), and experience with stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant alloys, often supported by relevant certifications. Familiarity with orbital welding machines, tube bending equipment, and various inspection tools is typically required. Attention to detail, steady hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are standout soft skills. These competencies are essential to ensure contaminant-free welds and meet strict safety and quality requirements in industries like pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.

What is the difference between High Purity Welding vs Cleanroom Welding?

AspectHigh Purity WeldingCleanroom Welding
CertificationsWelding certifications, specialized in inert gas and contamination controlWelding certifications, focus on contamination prevention
Work EnvironmentClean, controlled environments with strict contamination controlsCleanroom settings with controlled particulate levels
Industry UsagePharmaceutical, semiconductor, biotech industriesElectronics, aerospace, pharmaceutical manufacturing

High Purity Welding and Cleanroom Welding both require strict contamination control and specialized certifications. While High Purity Welding focuses on welding in ultra-clean environments for industries like pharmaceuticals and semiconductors, Cleanroom Welding emphasizes maintaining particulate control in cleanroom settings across various high-tech industries. Both roles demand precision and adherence to strict standards, but their specific environments and industry applications differ slightly.

What are typical challenges faced by high purity welders when working in cleanroom environments?

High purity welders often face the challenge of maintaining strict cleanliness standards while performing precise welds in cleanroom settings. This includes wearing specialized protective clothing, following rigorous protocols to avoid contamination, and ensuring that all tools and materials are meticulously cleaned before use. Additionally, welders must adapt to controlled environments with limited space and sometimes awkward positions, all while producing flawless welds that meet stringent industry specifications. Collaborating closely with quality assurance teams and engineers is also essential to uphold the required purity standards.

Company overview Sieber Industrial, part of the Talica Group, provides precision fabrication and fabrication-related services for high-purity and hygienic industries, including pharmaceutical, biotech, and specialty food/beverage. We design, assemble, and commission sanitary piping and vessel systems that meet strict industry standards and customer specifications. This role focuses on high-purity orbital welding for cleanroom and process piping environments.

Position summary We are seeking an experienced High Purity Orbital Welder to join our fabrication team in the Raleigh-Durham area. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record performing high-purity orbital TIG welds on sanitary stainless steel piping and fittings, with a strong commitment to quality, traceability, and cGMP/compliance. This on-site role requires excellent technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in cleanroom and controlled environments.

Key responsibilities

· Perform high-purity orbital TIG welding on sanitary piping (304/316/316L, Hastelloy and related alloys) using approved welding procedures and equipment.

· Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain orbital welding equipment; verify process parameters meet WPS/PQR requirements and project specifications. -Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, process specifications, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and quality records; document welds with traceability.

· Prepare joints and fit-up, clean surfaces to required cleanliness levels, and maintain passivation and surface finish requirements per client/spec. (e.g., Ra targets and standard surface finishes used in high-purity systems.) -Conduct pre-weld cleaning, fit-up checks, leak testing (e.g., helium leak tests), and post-weld inspection; perform nondestructive examination as required (e.g., dye penetrant/pressure tests).

· Ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA/ISO guidelines, ASME BPVC Section IX weld qualifications, and ASME BPE guidelines as applicable.

· Document weld maps, welder qualifications, batch records, and any deviations; maintain accurate QA/QC records for traceability.

· Troubleshoot weld defects, implement corrective actions, and participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.

· Maintain and calibrate welding equipment and related tools; perform routine preventive maintenance and inventory control for filler metals and consumables.

· Coordinate with engineers, QA, and project teams to support on-time project delivery; participate in safety programs and maintain a clean, organized work area.

· Travel to client sites or job locations as required (occasional, up to a moderate percentage of time depending on project needs).

Required qualifications

· 3–5+ years of practical experience performing orbital welding on high-purity sanitary piping and vessels; biotech/pharma, food & beverage, or related clean-process environments preferred.
