How much do x ray welding jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 12, 2026, the average hourly pay for x ray welding in the United States is $41.61, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $34.38 and $47.36 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does an X-ray welder do?

An X-ray welder inspects welds using radiographic imaging to detect internal defects and ensure quality and safety standards are met. They often work with non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, requiring certifications such as ASNT or AWS, and operate specialized equipment in industrial environments. Their role is critical for verifying the integrity of welds in pipelines, pressure vessels, and structural components.

Can you make $100,000 as a welder?

X Ray welders, who specialize in non-destructive testing and require certifications like ASNT, can potentially earn $100,000 or more annually, especially with experience, advanced skills, and working in high-demand industries or locations. However, typical salaries vary based on factors such as geographic region, employer, and level of expertise.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in X Ray Welding positions?

Professionals in X Ray Welding roles often encounter challenges such as interpreting complex x-ray images to identify subtle defects, maintaining rigorous safety protocols for radiation exposure, and managing the precision required to meet industry compliance standards. The work environment may involve tight deadlines and collaboration with welders, quality control inspectors, and engineers to resolve issues efficiently. Adaptability and ongoing learning are important, as technology and standards in non-destructive testing continually evolve. Being proactive about these challenges will not only help you excel in the role but also open up opportunities for advancement in quality assurance or supervisory positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the X Ray Welding position, and why are they important?

To thrive in X Ray Welding, you need a solid background in welding techniques, metallurgy, and non-destructive testing, often paired with formal training or certification such as AWS or ASNT Level II. Familiarity with radiographic equipment and x-ray imaging systems is essential for inspecting and ensuring the integrity of welds. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong problem-solving skills help a candidate stand out in this role. These abilities ensure the accurate detection of flaws, uphold safety and quality standards, and contribute to the reliable performance of critical welded structures.

Can you make 300k as a welder?

X Ray welders with specialized skills, certifications, and experience in high-demand industries can potentially earn around $300,000 annually, especially in senior or supervisory roles, or in high-cost-of-living areas. However, typical salaries for welders generally range from $40,000 to $80,000, with top earners in niche fields or with extensive expertise reaching higher figures.

How much does an X-ray welder make?

An X-ray welder's salary typically ranges from $50,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and location. Skilled welders with NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) certifications and experience in industrial settings tend to earn higher wages.

What is an X Ray Welding job?

An X Ray Welding job involves using X-ray imaging to inspect and ensure the quality of welded joints, typically in industries like aerospace, construction, and manufacturing. Welders or inspectors in this role use radiographic testing (RT) to detect any flaws, cracks, or discontinuities in welds that could compromise structural integrity. This process helps maintain safety standards and regulatory compliance. Professionals in this field usually have training in welding techniques and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
