What does a Help Desk Data Analyst do?

A Help Desk Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing data related to help desk operations, such as ticket volumes, response times, and issue trends. They use this information to identify areas for improvement, optimize workflows, and help the support team deliver better service. By generating reports and dashboards, they provide insights that assist management in decision-making and resource allocation. A Help Desk Data Analyst frequently collaborates with various IT teams, such as network administrators, software developers, and system engineers, to diagnose and resolve complex user issues. When a problem exceeds the scope of standard troubleshooting, the analyst escalates the issue and provides detailed data insights and reports to assist higher-level support staff. This cross-team communication not only speeds up problem resolution but also ensures that recurring issues are documented for long-term improvements. Building strong relationships with other IT professionals and maintaining clear, concise documentation are key aspects of this collaborative environment.

To thrive as a Help Desk Data Analyst, you need a solid background in data analysis, troubleshooting, and customer support, usually supported by a degree in information technology or a related field. Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems, data visualization tools (such as Tableau or Power BI), and proficiency in Excel or SQL is commonly required. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help you efficiently address user issues and interpret data accurately. These skills are crucial for identifying trends, resolving technical problems quickly, and improving overall IT support operations.

Are you seeking a career where you can foster a positive working environment and enhance employee relations? Do you possess flexibility, proactivity, approachability, a knack for problem-solving, and a good sense of humor? If so, you've found the right place!
Wood Rodgers, a leading engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Help Desk Analyst to provide Tier 1 technical support across the organization. This role serves as the first point of contact for hardware, software, Microsoft 365, connectivity, and end-user support issues in a primarily Windows environment. This is a staffed, hourly, non-exempt position.
A day in the life as a Wood Rodgers' Help Desk Analyst
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and document support requests through phone, Microsoft Teams, remote-support tools, and the ticketing system.
  • Install software, configure workstations, perform hardware troubleshooting, and support user access issues.
  • Escalate complex issues as needed and maintain accurate documentation of troubleshooting efforts and resolutions.
  • Assist with equipment inventory, asset tracking, and technology lifecycle management.
  • Deliver responsive customer service to employees at all levels.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, process improvement, and support documentation.
  • Travel to other office locations as needed for onsite support.

Qualifications & Skills
  • 3+ years of help desk, desktop support, or related IT experience.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365, computer hardware, software applications, and end-user support.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, manage multiple priorities, and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with ticketing systems, Active Directory, networking concepts, workstation deployment, and remote support tools preferred.
  • Technical certifications, an IT-related degree, and experience supporting specialized business applications are a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between office locations as needed.

A note on hourly pay ranges
The range does not reflect geographic variations and may fluctuate above or below the stated amount. Offers will be based on several factors, including experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, training, and location.
