Job Summary: Job Summary
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
• Majority of the time spent using independent judgment in making employment-related and business decisions, or effectively recommend such decisions including but not limited to product and department related strategies, hiring, promoting, disciplining, suspending, discharging, rewarding or otherwise engage in resolving Partner-related matters
• Oversees the store's Beer & Wine Department including providing a safe work environment, employment interviewing, training, developing and performance appraisals; customer service; ordering, display rotation, controlling shrink, product quality, sanitation, inventory control, work scheduling; receiving, pricing, stocking, and signing of merchandise; and financial results. Participates with a total team mind set.
• Maintains production quality, monitors labeling and ingredient changes, sources appropriate packaging.
• Requests new item set-up and recipe development through Procurement.
• Coordinates holiday special orders and department food demonstrations.
• Communicates and models the Central Market vision.
• Manages Partner morale and retention.
• Provides excellent customer service and working with the staff in the department and the entire store, to ensure that Central Market standards are upheld.
• Ensures availability of seasonal items.
• Prepares work schedules for department.
• Orders product to maintain inventory.
• Monitors department budget and payroll including product and labor expenses.
• Builds relationships with customers and builds customer service through Partners.
• Educates customers one-on-one through passive sampling, hand sampling, demos and classes, suggesting serving combinations, working with events coordinators to establish demo schedules.
• Designs and executes merchandising programs.
• Maintains safety/sanitation of equipment and department.
• Promote division and store events through powerful planning, merchandising and taking advantage of traffic.
• Achieves sales goals; prepares projections/forecasts, reviews financial tracking information, addresses performance opportunities and budget discrepancies, communicates sales goals to Partners.
• Achieves gross profit budget by preparing projections/forecasts, controlling inventory, managing and reducing food costs, ensuring the accuracy of invoices, managing the conversion process for perishable shrink, reducing supply usage and managing shrink using DSS.
• Periodically performs duties of all Beer & Wine personnel.
• Provides direction, training, and feedback to all department personnel.
• Ensures that all government and company regulations and standards for product freshness, safety, refrigeration and sanitation are met.

  • Proven leadership experience in a complex environment with multiple direct reports - Required
  • 1+ years Background in beer & wine management - Required

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of wines of the world including science and process of winemaking, product rating systems, growing regions, varietals, flavor profiles, food pairings, and proper storage and temperature. - Required
  • Knowledge of beers of the world including science of brewing, types, product trends, flavor profiles, seasonality and storage conditions. - Required
  • Knowledge of humidor storage and display. - Required
  • Ability to delegate, organize and plan effectively - Required
  • Thorough understanding of retail accounting - Required
  • Excellent customer service skills - Required
  • Assist in new product development - Required
  • Proficiency on HEB systems (XPTR, IMS, CICS2) preferred - Preferred
  • Excellent communication and organization skills - Required
  • Excellent culinary and food processing skills - Required
  • Ability to maintain an efficient operation, troubleshoot and report any malfunctions of equipment - Required
  • Ability to supervise, train, and cross-train staff - Required
