Hear information

What are some typical challenges faced by hearing aid specialists when assisting clients with new devices?

Hearing aid specialists often encounter challenges such as helping clients adjust to new hearing devices, addressing individual comfort preferences, and troubleshooting technical issues. Many clients may require multiple fittings and follow-up appointments to ensure their devices are working optimally and meeting their lifestyle needs. Additionally, specialists frequently collaborate with audiologists and other healthcare professionals to develop effective care plans and provide ongoing support. Patience and strong communication skills are essential in guiding clients through the adjustment period.

What is a hear professional?

Hear professionals, often referred to as hearing specialists or audiologists, are healthcare experts who diagnose, manage, and treat hearing or balance problems. They work with patients of all ages to assess hearing loss, fit hearing aids, and provide rehabilitation for auditory disorders. These professionals may also educate patients about hearing health and work with other medical specialists to address complex hearing issues. Their goal is to improve patients' quality of life by enhancing their ability to hear and communicate effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a hearing aid specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hearing Aid Specialist, you need a strong background in audiology, hearing assessment, and fitting hearing devices, usually supported by state licensure or certification. Familiarity with audiometric testing equipment, hearing aid programming software, and patient record management systems is essential. Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills help you effectively support clients and address their unique needs. These skills are crucial to ensure clients receive optimal hearing solutions and a high standard of care.

Job description

Remote Hearing Instrument Specialist

Minnesota

Locations: California | Minnesota | New York | Pennsylvania | Texas (Fully Remote)

Must hold an active HIS license in CA, MN, NY, PA, or TX and have passed the ILE

Why This Role

Most audiology jobs tie you to a clinic, a commute, and a schedule that wasn't built around you. This one is different.

At hear.com, you'll deliver expert hearing care entirely from home (no front desk, no parking, no overhead). You'll work with patients who are motivated, matched to the right technology, and supported by a team that handles the logistics so you can focus on what you're passionate about: helping people hear well to live well.

This is teleaudiology at its most advanced, and we're looking for clinicians who are ready to practice in a way that's reshaping the field.

What You'll Do
  • Conduct remote evaluations, device fittings, and follow-up care for patients across your licensed state(s)
  • Educate and guide patients on getting the most from their hearing technology
  • Provide feedback on new hearing care tools and workflows that improve the patient experience
  • Collaborate cross functionally to ensure seamless patient journeys
  • Contribute clinical insights to hear.com's global network, the largest independent audiology network in the world
What You Bring
  • Active HIS license in CA, MN, NY, PA, or TX with 2+ years of fitting experience
  • HIS applicants must have successfully passed the International Licensing Exam (ILE), administered by the International Hearing Society (IHS)
  • A patient-first approach: empathetic, communicative, and genuinely invested in outcomes
  • Comfort working independently and managing your own schedule and caseload
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work across teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable home internet: hardwired connection required (100+ Mbps download / 20+ Mbps upload)
  • Willingness to obtain licensure in additional states (all associated costs fully covered by hear.com)
What We Offer

Compensation

  • Total target earnings of $100,000 to $120,000 (base salary + monthly performance bonuses)

Benefits

  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Open (flexible) PTO policy
  • Continuing education and certification costs fully covered so you can stay at the forefront of the field
  • All equipment provided: laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, ethernet cable, and more

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm or 9am to 6pm in your time zone

Culture

  • A close-knit, performance-driven team that values ownership, collaboration, and solutions over hierarchy
  • Real input into products and processes; your clinical voice matters here
