DCH is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Intern, Intake and Triage Unit with Healthcare Facility Regulation Division. This paid internship assignment is for a duration of six months and reports directly to the Senior Manager of the Intake and Triage Unit. This is a hybrid position that requires in-office and remote work with the approval of the supervisor.

The days and frequency in the office can change at any time during employment based on the business needs of the organization. Job Responsibilities Under direct supervision, the Intern gains practical knowledge and develops foundational skills within the assigned functional area. The position assists with routine tasks and small projects, applying learned concepts while receiving guidance and feedback from a supervisor. The Intern may also contribute input to departmental or program initiatives and planning activities as part of their professional development.

Interact with constituents via the call center Determine appropriate report based on customer's needs Conduct data entry reviews on each report to ensure reporting and regulatory guidelines are met. Make program related determinations based on State and Federal Regulations Create appropriate triage determinations based on the analysis of severity of reports Support Regional Directors in scheduling onsite inspection/complaint investigations. Verify data and monitor compliance of licensed Healthcare facilities with agency policy and procedures.

Work with others to provide strategic analysis. Performs administrative duties and statistical, or compliance data analysis and reporting in support of management decision making in functional area. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND currently enrolled in a graduate program relevant to the area of assignment.

The internship position is for the Healthcare Facility Regulation Division (HFRD), Intake and Triage Unit at the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH). How will the daily responsibilities align with the learning objectives created for this role. The intern's daily responsibilities, such as interacting with complainants & constituents, conducting data entry reviews, assisting with program-related compliance determinations, and shadowing the intake & triage process per the State Operations Manual, will align with the learning objectives by providing practical experience in healthcare regulation, compliance monitoring, data analysis, and customer service.

These tasks will help the intern develop a comprehensive understanding of regulatory processes concerning the US Healthcare, particularly the Conditions of Participation with CMS as well as State of Georgia Rules & Regulations and data-driven decision-making in a healthcare setting. What projects will the intern be expected to complete during the semester. During the semester, the intern will be expected to complete projects such as: Conducting a thorough review and analysis of call center interactions and triage reports.

Creating comprehensive reports on compliance data and regulatory adherence. Developing strategic analyses to improve understanding of Federal Rules and Regulations applicable to healthcare. Assisting in the scheduling and preparation of onsite inspections and complaint investigations.

Participating in verification projects to ensure accuracy and compliance with State of Georgia Healthcare Rules and Regulations. What type of professional experience or hands on training will your intern gain from this role. The intern will gain professional experience in: Regulatory compliance and healthcare facility oversight.

Data entry, analysis, and reporting. Customer service and interaction through the call center. Understanding state and federal regulations related to healthcare.

Administrative support and strategic analysis in a healthcare context How will your team support this intern with relationship building and on-the-job training efforts. Our team will support the intern by: Providing a structured onboarding process with training sessions on regulatory guidelines and data management. Assigning a dedicated supervisor for regular check-ins and guidance.

Encouraging participation in team meetings and collaborative projects. Offering opportunities for networking with professionals within the department and across DCH. Providing feedback and mentoring to ensure professional growth and development.

How will you evaluate your intern's performance. The intern's performance will be evaluated through: Regular feedback sessions with their supervisor. Assessment of completed projects and accuracy in data reporting and analysis.

Monitoring their ability to adhere to regulatory guidelines and make appropriate program-related determinations. Evaluating their participation in team activities and support provided to regional directors. Formal performance reviews at mid-semester and end of the internship.

Kelly Bowles, RN, BSN, will be assigned as a mentor to offer guidance, support professional development, and help the intern navigate their role and responsibilities effectively as well as help them work with other colleagues within the department.
