Job Summary/Requirements/Education
The Lactation Care Associate assists the Lactation Consultant with baby weight checks and answers basic lactation questions. Enter information into the electronic medical record. Provide excellent customer service in sales of gifts and lactation items. Knowledgeable of store products; operates cash register and calculates daily totals/settlements for deposit; schedules outpatient lactation appointments; and when certified, performs bra fittings.
The Lactation Care Associate will have a High School Diploma or general education degree (GED). CLC, CLS or CBS is required within 6 months of hiring.
Essential Functions
  • Follows appropriate infection prevention practices and bio hazard exposure plan.
  • Assists with patient flow and tasks associated with weight checks and consultations, signing patients in and calling them when a room is open.
  • Oversees weigh and stay support group, assisting with weight checks and answering basic lactation questions. Uses and RN Lactation Consultant as a resource as needed.
  • Enters information into EPIC on infant weight checks.
  • Assists the IBCLC in Great Beginnings with outpatient care by weighing baby and assisting the mother as needed.
  • Assess the breastfeeding mother/baby dyad for breastfeeding effectiveness, including latch and milk transfer, and milk supply.
  • Counsels and educates mothers regarding breastfeeding
  • Coordinates care of mother/baby dyad consistently with IBCLC, making appropriate referral to IBCLC as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of current lactation information and products to better serve patients.
  • Maintains knowledge of types of breast pumps, pump supplies and functions to assist patients with pumping needs.
  • Receives and logs breast milk donations for The Milk Bank, assists with shipping breast milk to The Milk Bank.
  • Attends all required training programs and can describe responsibilities related to general safety, unit safety and job related hazards.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate cash register, opening and closing procedures, and breast pump rental.
  • Maintains knowledge of products in Great Beginnings and assists customers as needed (including bra fittings).
  • Demonstrates customer focused verbal and non-verbal behaviors and communication skills.
