Job Summary:

The Systems Engineering Lead provides technical leadership and execution oversight across the full systems engineering lifecycle for complex space and ground systems. This role is responsible for establishing disciplined, model-based engineering practices that strengthen architecture integrity, improve traceability, reduce risk, and enhance overall system quality. The Systems Engineering Lead ensures authoritative data, systems architecture, and model-based approaches are integrated throughout program execution, supporting mission success from concept through sustainment.


Key Responsibilities:

Systems Engineering Lifecycle Leadership

  • Define, manage, and continuously improve the complete systems engineering lifecycle using authoritative data, systems architecture, and systems modeling to create efficient, low-risk processes that produce high-quality artifacts
  • Lead technical requirements development by codifying model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices and designing test-driven requirements architectures that ensure full verification traceability
  • Lead the systems design process by decomposing systems into functional and logical architectures, identifying reusable components, and ensuring adherence to Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) principles
  • Oversee implementation activities by aligning execution to formal change management processes and maintaining current, authoritative design artifacts

Integration, Verification & Validation

  • Lead system integration efforts by developing data-driven and model-based interface control processes, incorporating automation where appropriate to verify subsystem and component compliance with interface designs
  • Architect and oversee verification activities, including unit, subsystem, integration, and end-to-end testing, ensuring test environments maintain operational parity
  • Lead validation planning and execution, including development of user acceptance strategies and coordination with customers and stakeholders

Sustainment & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead sustainment strategy development by designing repeatable maintenance processes and leveraging performance data to inform stakeholders of high-risk subsystems or components
  • Promote continuous engineering process improvement aligned with modern digital engineering and DevSecOps environments

Qualifications:

  • Clearance: Active TS clearance with SCI eligibility required
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline required (Systems Engineering preferred). Master’s degree in an engineering discipline preferred
  • Required Skills:
    • Minimum 10+ years executing systems engineering efforts for space systems
    • Minimum 3 years implementing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices
    • Experience with cloud implementation, RMF compliance, DevSecOps practices, AI/ML automation, data analytics, Agile development methodologies, and Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Preferred Skills:
    • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP)
    • SysML modeling certifications (e.g., OCSMP)
    • Strong leadership and organizational skills in highly dynamic, mission-driven environments
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with customer counterparts and contractor teams
    • Ability to translate complex technical architectures into actionable engineering execution plans
    • Commitment to engineering rigor, traceability, and continuous process improvement
