SUMMARY:
Responsible for under direction of plant manager the Environmental, Health and Safety Technician person(s) provides hands on support for multiple aspects of the plant's environmental health and safety activities. These duties include but are not limited to plant-wide safety audits, personnel safety, recordkeeping and reporting, incident investigation, training and other administrative duties as required. The Environmental, Health and Safety Technician assumes responsibility for the successful completion of EHS assignments to ensure the plants adherence to all applicable, federal, state, and local regulations. The Environmental, Health and Safety Technician will cross train with other departments to assist when needed and time permits. This role does not have direct reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Mizkan America safety policies, OSHA regulations, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).
Work safely and model safe work behavior for others
Follow-up on the written Safety Tags, completing those that can be completed without maintenance assistance.
Assist in Risk Assessment Training and be able to complete Risk Assessments as needed when new equipment is installed, as well as when a process changes and/or an ingredient has been added.
Participate in plant meetings and committees as a Safety Department Representative, following through on assignments as reasonable and as time allows, as assigned by the Department Manager
Understanding of Department KPI's and KAI's, working to meet departmental goals.
Safety Observations as determined by plant goals.
Assist the safety team in providing Hearing Tests and Radiation protection as assigned by the Department Manager
Join in on all assigned Web Conferences as assigned.
Understand and maintain the Key and Lock program of the plant and make key assignments.
Be able to write OPL, SOP and Safety Training Materials as required.
Attend Cap-Ex meetings and represent safety concerns on new equipment or process changes as needed - completing New Product assessments and/or Risk Assessments when assigned.
Review Confined Space Entry Permits for correct procedures and follow-up when deficiencies are noted, with collaboration from the Department Manager, and purchase new equipment when needed.
Participate with Mizkan safety group as assigned by Plant Manager/EHS and lead plant safety projects as needed.
Assist in plant training for CPR/First Aid, Haz-Mat, PIT, Fall Protection, Safety Observation
Complete EHS priority projects
Manage site security access and program.
Coordinates and conducts EHS inspections and/or audits, daily and performs analysis and reports that recommend corrective action steps; performs risk assessments and trains others to perform risk assessments.
Act upon Daily Forklift Checklists and file.
Maintain appropriate levels of PPE in the plant by processing Requisitions, Orders, and POs as needed.
Do Weekly Emergency Shower and Eye Wash inspections, maintaining a log of each device, implementing parts ordering when needed.
Do monthly equipment checks of the Working at Heights equipment, maintaining a log of each device, and acting upon deficiencies under the direction of the Plant Manager.
Do the periodic checks of the Air Monitoring Equipment, maintaining a log and acting upon deficiencies, under the supervision of the Plant Manager
Do a monthly Fire Extinguisher check, maintaining a log and acting upon deficiencies.
Provide monthly Safety Training to plant staff based on the annual Training schedule.
Complete a monthly storm water inspection, discussing monthly results with Plant Manager after each inspection, and filing results when complete.
Participate in Deep Compliance Audits for safety concerns as assigned.
Reviews MSDS/SDS sheets for safety concerns and PPE requirements, maintains the MSDS/SDS books with the correct sheets, file and archive the retired MSDS/SDS sheets as needed. Annually participates in a chemical inventory activity.
Participates in all plant audits.
Collect, review, act upon, and file the Daily Cranes and Hoists inspections, including follow-up if they are not being completed.
Collect, review, sign, and file all Hot Work Permits; ordering forms when needed.
Be able to audit plant safety programs against OSHA regulation and identify gaps. Will also be expected to be able to develop plant safety programs using OSHA Regulations and Framework Standards as guidelines.
Assist in the Contractor Safety Program, developing new safety topics as needed, providing training and yearlong program support. Maintains all recordkeeping in an organized system.
Manages the required inspections of the Working at Heights Harnesses with the approved vendor.
Coordinates the exchange and inspection of the Electricians safety gloves with Planners and Inspector to meet the Electrical Standard.
Takes responsibility for the annual inspection of all cranes and hoists with the approved vendor and follows-up on any required improvements or repairs.
In the absence of an EHS Manager must be able to maintain the OSHA log, required EHS reporting to corporate EHS, and coordinate with plant leadership to maintain all EHS programs.
Responsible for coordination of key safety program compliance with the Ammonia Safety Program.
Directly support Plant Safety and Environmental Pillars and provide EHS input to other pillars.
Supports employee requests for shoe vouchers, PPE (Rx safety glasses, etc.) needs and other safety supplies.
Participates as a First Responder and provides initial First Aid, medical treatment, and assessment of employee injuries.
In the absence of the Plant Manager/EHS Support, the EHS Technician will follow the safety matrix to make the decision to transport the injured employee to medical facility if necessary.
Fills out the initial accident investigation form.
Works with the supervisor to investigate the incident and collaborates on the corrective actions.
Must have the ability to report correct information back to plant and departmental stakeholders.
Assist and support the Plant Manager on execution and maintenance of the Worker's Compensation Cases.
As a safety representative you will be exposed to confidential medical information.
Follow all safety rules to include but not limited to LOTO and keep area clean and in orderly condition.
Responsible for food product quality and safety.

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
5 years' experience within a food processing, bottling, liquid filling/blending and/or consumer goods manufacturing/packing environment preferred.
2 years' experience in related field
Must be able to work any shift and weekends.
Any safety certifications, safety training or being part of a safety committee is a preferred.
Must be able to present training to large group of employees (Previous experience presenting to group preferred)
Strong computer literacy skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Ability to travel as needed.
Willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
Ability to exhibit a professional business-like appearance and demeanor.
Ability to work in high temperatures (hot or cold), working at heights and exposure to strong smells, dust, gases, fumes and chemical or require personal protective equipment.
Ability to use Personal Protective Equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical aspects of the job as performed in an 8-hour workday.
Must be able to see, sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, reach, bend, twist, ascend/ descend.
Ability to pull, push, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., 50+ lbs. with assistance.
