Lecturer, Environmental Analysis

Location: Claremont, CA, United States

Responsibilities
  • Teach the one‑course introductory GIS class EA101 – "JustGIS!", a course that uses a critical geography lens to explore how GIS can promote social justice outcomes in policy.
  • Provide an introduction and overview of GIS, specifically ESRI WebGIS and ArcGIS mapping software.
  • Guide students in using ESRI ArcGIS mapping software to create and analyze digital maps that highlight environmental justice, racial inequality, hazard exposure, and health equity spatially.
  • Apply critical geography theory to evaluate the processes of map‑making and to foster discourse on the complex spatial, cultural, and political forces that shape environmental outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience teaching GIS or related spatial analysis at the college level.
  • Knowledge of environmental justice or critical geography concepts is preferred.
  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS mapping software and ability to demonstrate its use to students.
  • Must show proof of authorization to work in the United States.
  • Position does not provide travel or moving expense reimbursement and does not sponsor visas.
Compensation

Class compensation ranges from $8,500 to $9,300, commensurate with rank and experience.
