Job description

Head of Engineering

Location: Franklin, TN      |  Reports To: EVP, Technology

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, now and in the future.

Role Overview

The Head of Engineering will lead the end-to-end engineering function responsible for building, integrating, and scaling a modern technology ecosystem. The role balances strategic leadership, technical oversight, and innovation to deliver robust, secure, and intelligent digital platforms that enable business growth. The right candidate has a proven record of leading people through change, using data and metrics to build trust, demonstrate progress, and drive accountability.

This leader will elevate engineering capability, advance Agile maturity, and embed AI and intelligent tooling where they create the most business impact. They measure their success by the outcomes the business achieves, not the technology it runs on.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership and People Development

Build, develop, and scale a high-performing engineering organization spanning application development, data engineering, AI and ML, and DevOps, creating clear growth paths and cultivating a culture of accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.

Transformation and Metrics-Driven Execution

Lead the engineering organization through sustained transformation using a metrics-driven approach that makes progress visible, earns trust across the business, and builds a shared culture of accountability and honest stakeholder communication.

Business Partnership and Stakeholder Alignment

Serve as a trusted voice of engineering to executive and business leadership, translating complexity into plain language and partnering with operations and product teams to direct technology investments toward measurable customer, operational, and commercial outcomes.

Agile Maturity and Continuous Improvement

Advance the organization toward genuine adaptability by coaching teams on Agile principles, aligning planning and prioritization with Product Management around outcomes, and creating space for rapid experimentation that turns learning into compounding business value.

Platform Stewardship and AI Enablement

Ensure the company's technology platforms, integrations, and vendor relationships are stable, well-governed, and aligned with business priorities, while defining and executing a pragmatic AI roadmap that embeds intelligent capabilities where they create the greatest measurable impact.

Qualifications

  • 20 or more years in technology, with at least 15 in engineering leadership
  • Proven record of leading technology organizations through significant, sustained transformation
  • Track record of driving change through metrics, empathy, and transparent stakeholder communication
  • Strong experience advancing Agile maturity and building outcome-oriented delivery teams
  • Practical experience with AI and ML delivery, including GenAI applications in business contexts
  • Deep background in enterprise platform ecosystems, system integration, and vendor governance

Desired Attributes

  • Business oriented: measures success in outcomes, not outputs or technical complexity
  • A change leader who energizes people around a vision and earns buy-in through trust
  • Metrics minded: uses data to tell a story, drive accountability, and demonstrate value
  • A developer of people who finds genuine satisfaction in helping others grow
  • A clear, confident communicator who makes complexity accessible to any audience
  • Curious and experimentative, with a bias toward learning by doing
