Purpose
  1. To instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical conditioning necessary to achieve individual and team success in baseball.
  2. To promote responsibility, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, self-discipline, character development, and academic success through participation in baseball.

Summary
  • The Head Baseball Coach oversees all aspects of the high school baseball program, including player development, practice planning, competition preparation, and program organization. The coach fosters a positive and inclusive team culture while ensuring compliance with all school, conference, and MSHSL policies. The Head Baseball Coach serves as a positive representative of St. James Public Schools and reports directly to the High School Activities Director.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee all aspects of the baseball program.
  • Plan and conduct structured, purposeful practices and competitions.
  • Teach baseball fundamentals, game strategy, conditioning, and sportsmanship.
  • Promote skill development, teamwork, leadership, and character growth.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture.
  • Maintain discipline in a firm, fair, and supportive manner.
  • Supervise and effectively utilize assistant coaches.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHSL, conference, and district policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and support feeder and youth baseball programs aligned with district activities.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, staff, and administration.
  • Establish and communicate a clear program philosophy and expectations.
  • Support academic achievement and student eligibility expectations.
  • Manage equipment, uniforms, field needs, and program resources.
  • Adhere to district budget procedures and inventory processes.
  • Collaborate with the Activities Director regarding scheduling, staffing, transportation, and program needs.
  • Evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Keep stakeholders informed regarding schedules, expectations, and updates.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and athletic department events.
  • Provide regular updates to the Activities Director regarding program status.
  • Coordinate and lead post-season recognition activities and events.
