How much do hardware planner jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for hardware planner in the United States is $69,591.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $54,000.00 and $81,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What jobs will no longer exist in 2030?

The role of hardware planner is less likely to disappear entirely by 2030, but some manual or repetitive tasks in hardware design and procurement may be automated with advances in AI and digital tools. Jobs heavily reliant on routine tasks or outdated technology are at higher risk of obsolescence, while roles requiring strategic planning, technical expertise, and adaptability are expected to persist.

What does a Hardware Planner do?

A Hardware Planner is responsible for forecasting, procuring, and managing the inventory of physical components and equipment needed for manufacturing or IT operations. They analyze demand, coordinate with suppliers, and ensure timely delivery of hardware to meet production schedules or business needs. Their role helps prevent shortages or excess inventory, optimizing costs and maintaining smooth operations. Hardware Planners often work closely with purchasing, engineering, and logistics teams to align hardware availability with project timelines.

What is the 3 month rule for jobs?

The 3 month rule for a hardware planner typically refers to a company's policy of reviewing or evaluating employee performance, project progress, or resource planning every three months. It is used to ensure projects stay on track and to adjust plans or budgets as needed, often involving regular updates and assessments in the planning process.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

High-level executive roles such as CEOs, CFOs, and other C-suite positions often earn $500,000 or more annually, especially in large corporations. Certain specialized professions like investment bankers, successful entrepreneurs, and top-tier surgeons can also reach this income level, often requiring extensive experience, advanced skills, and significant responsibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Hardware Planner, and why are they important?

To succeed as a Hardware Planner, you typically need a background in supply chain management, inventory control, and logistics, often supported by a relevant degree or industry experience. Familiarity with ERP systems, demand forecasting tools, and proficiency in Excel or similar data analysis software is essential. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills help you coordinate efficiently with vendors and cross-functional teams. These competencies ensure accurate inventory management, minimize delays, and optimize hardware procurement processes vital for operational success.

What tech jobs pay 400,000 a year?

Hardware planners typically do not reach $400,000 annually; however, senior roles such as chief technology officers, senior engineering executives, or specialized hardware design directors in large corporations can earn this level of compensation. These positions often require extensive experience, advanced degrees, and leadership skills, along with expertise in industry-standard tools and certifications.

What is the difference between Hardware Planner vs Equipment Coordinator?

AspectHardware PlannerEquipment Coordinator
Primary RolePlans and manages hardware procurement, inventory, and deployment schedulesCoordinates equipment logistics, maintenance, and distribution
Required SkillsSupply chain management, technical knowledge of hardware, project planningLogistics coordination, communication skills, inventory management
Work EnvironmentOffice-based, collaboration with IT and procurement teamsOn-site and office, working with logistics and technical teams
Industry UsageIT, telecommunications, manufacturingIT, facilities management, event planning

The main difference is that Hardware Planners focus on strategizing and managing hardware procurement and deployment, while Equipment Coordinators handle the logistics and distribution of equipment. Both roles require coordination skills and technical understanding but serve different stages of hardware management.

How does a Hardware Planner typically collaborate with engineering and supply chain teams during product development?

Hardware Planners work closely with engineering teams to understand technical specifications and ensure timely procurement of necessary components. They also coordinate with supply chain professionals to manage inventory levels and mitigate risks related to lead times or shortages. Effective communication between these teams is crucial, as planners must balance project deadlines with cost and availability considerations to keep development on track. Regular meetings and status updates are common to align priorities and address any potential bottlenecks.

Job description

Job Title: Hardware Engineer

Job Description

This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced hardware engineer to design and develop a System-on-Module (SOM) based on an Intel Core Ultra processor that interfaces with a carrier card. You will contribute directly to bringing a new drone-focused product to market, working end-to-end on processor, board, and system-level design activities. The position offers meaningful technical ownership in a small, collaborative team environment where your expertise will shape a new product intended to disrupt the market.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a System-on-Module (SOM) based on an Intel Core Ultra processor that interfaces with a carrier card.
  • Create processor and PCIe architectures using Intel platforms, ensuring robust and reliable system-level performance.
  • Perform high-speed PCB design and layout at frequencies of 5 GHz and above, incorporating signal integrity and power integrity considerations.
  • Develop power delivery solutions, including power plane analysis to ensure stable and efficient operation of the SOM and carrier card.
  • Conduct thermal analysis and address system-level thermal considerations to maintain performance and reliability in drone applications.
  • Lead and participate in board bring-up activities, including debugging and validation of new hardware designs.
  • Capture and refine hardware and system requirements, ensuring they are clearly documented and validated against design outcomes.
  • Prepare thorough design documentation and actively participate in design reviews, incorporating feedback to improve the hardware architecture.
  • Plan and execute test activities, including creating test plans, test cases, procedures, and reports for hardware validation.
  • Support electrical qualification and certification efforts by providing technical input, test data, and documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with a small engineering team while also working independently to drive assigned design and validation tasks.
  • Contribute to the development of a new drone market product by applying hardware design best practices and innovative solutions.

Essential Skills

  • Strong processor design experience, including work with Intel platforms and familiarity with Intel Core Ultra processors.
  • Hands-on PCIe design experience, covering interface design, integration, and validation.
  • Proficiency in high-speed PCB design and layout at 5 GHz and higher, with demonstrated application of signal integrity and power integrity principles.
  • Experience in power delivery design, including detailed power plane analysis for complex boards.
  • Capability in thermal analysis and system-level thermal management for electronic hardware.
  • Practical experience with board bring-up, including hardware debugging and validation of new designs.
  • Ability to capture and validate hardware and system requirements in a structured manner.
  • Skill in preparing clear design documentation and participating in formal design reviews.
  • Experience in test planning, including the creation of test plans, test cases, procedures, and detailed test reports.
  • Experience in supporting electrical qualification and certification activities for hardware products.
  • Ability to work effectively both collaboratively in a small team and independently on assigned tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Direct experience with Intel Core Ultra-based designs is highly desirable.
  • Previous work on high-speed hardware design for embedded or drone-related applications is a plus.
  • Familiarity with hardware design tools and PCB layout software used for complex, high-speed boards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing hardware issues during bring-up and validation.
  • Clear and concise communication skills for documenting designs and presenting in design reviews.
  • Interest in contributing to a new product aimed at disrupting the drone market.

Work Environment

This is a part-time position that combines both onsite and remote work. You will typically be onsite once a week to participate in design reviews and to support testing and validation of boards using lab equipment and collaborative team sessions. There may be an opportunity to work with a small board at home for certain testing activities, allowing for flexibility in how you manage development and validation tasks. You will operate within a small, focused engineering team dedicated to bringing an innovative drone product to market, using modern hardware design, PCB layout, and test tools in a hands-on environment.
