BAE Systems is seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager within our Electronic Combat Solutions business area to lead a team of electrical engineers. We are interested in candidates with leadership, technical, and project management experience, who have had a role in new development and/or established programs. Experience with leading multi-disciplined engineering teams through one or more phases of the hardware product lifecycle is important, as the individual will be in a position to influence program execution and mentor senior engineers.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and managing a team of approximately 10 electrical engineers
  • Hiring and staffing hardware engineers in support of program needs
  • Personnel performance and development
  • Hardware engineering program execution and scope management
  • Agile product development and decision making
  • Application of hardware and engineering processes on programs
  • Staying technically relevant through the execution of individual programs

Primary tasks will include:
  • Collaborate with engineering talent leads to develop staffing strategies to meet the business needs
  • Staff current and projected hardware engineering needs for business area programs
  • Develop a talent pipeline which aligns with current and future business needs
  • Identify and grow capabilities in critical skill areas identified for the business
  • Work closely with project engineering managers and hardware managers to ensure successful hardware execution on programs
  • Monitor hardware execution of programs through performance metrics
  • Oversee and ensure adherence to hardware process through lifecycle phases including: design development, verification, integration, and production support
  • Drive scope management through understanding of technical baselines, proposal positions, and execution plans
  • Serve as design review chair or assessor for development programs to ensure reviews meet hardware guidelines, and to ensure appropriate rigor in design efforts
  • Support proposal efforts for hardware engineering to capture new business
  • Review hardware bids and proposals ensuring appropriate assumptions, risk and opportunities
  • Provide employees with performance assessments for mid-year reviews, end-of-year reviews, and throughout the year
  • Develop employees on team
  • Support key initiatives in business area or in discipline to meet yearly objectives and continuous improvement goals
  • Provide communication of hardware engineering performance to business and discipline senior leadership
  • Communicate with team members through regular staff meetings and other means

Required Skills and Education
  • Eligible to obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance
  • Electrical engineering degree
  • BSE with 12+ years experience or MSE and 10+ years experience
  • Ability to drive activities to closure
  • Experience leading engineering teams
  • Experience with the design, build, integration and/or test of complex electronic systems
  • Motivated self-starter with leadership skills and ability to effectively work in a team environment
  • Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, and analytical capability
  • Experience presenting technical information to program teams and/or customers
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred Skills and Education
  • Active DOD Security Clearance.
  • Strong understanding of Product Lifecycle management processes
  • Demonstrated success managing all hardware engineering aspects of requirements definition, design, integration, test and delivery of complex Electronic Warfare systems
  • Prior Project Engineer / Control Account Manager (CAM) experience, including managing earned value metrics, such as Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI).
  • Proficiency using MS Office and MS Project
  • Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines, driving schedules while maintaining costs
