Job description

Job Summary 

A Sr. Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of custom-engineered mechanical seals for demanding applications. This role focuses on creating innovative sealing solutions, refining designs for manufacturability, and supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through commercialization. The engineer is a subject matter expert and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of mechanical seal products in demanding environments. The engineer will be responsible to train others on technical details and lead design reviews with customers and peers.

Essential Job Function

· Lead the design and implementation of innovative sealing solutions from concept to commercialization.
· Conduct design verification using advanced finite element analysis tools.
· Develop and implement test methods and hardware for new product validation.
· Manage prototype part fabrication and testing.
· Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, quality assurance, and project management to ensure design for manufacturability and rapid fabrication.
· Create and maintain process control documentation, risk assessments, and verification and validation.
· Facilitate technical communication with internal stakeholders, external customers, and suppliers, including leading design reviews.
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives in design and manufacturing processes.

Basic Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline is required.
· 7 - 10+ years of experience in aerospace mechanical seal design or turbomachinery systems.
· Proficiency using Siemens NX, SolidWorks or similar 3D solid modeling is preferred.
· Proficiency using ANSYS, ADINA or similar finite element analysis code is required.
· Demonstrated success in product design, development, and commercialization.
· Familiarity with AS9100, ISO9001, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing practices.
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
· Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
· Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
· Ability to apply job knowledge & skills to improve productivity, quality and timeliness, and to solve problems using good judgment.
· Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth in a fast-paced environment.

These considerations can cause offered compensation to vary. The hiring range for this position is typically $119,134 - $178,701 annually.
