Job description

LRI Purdy Transfer Station, a Waste Connections company, is hiring a Full-Time Laborer in Gig Harbor, Washington.

Conveniently located for candidates living in Gig Harbor, Port Orchard, Bremerton, Silverdale, Poulsbo, Belfair, Tacoma, Lakebay, Olalla, and throughout Pierce and Kitsap Counties, this opportunity offers stable employment, competitive pay, and long-term career growth with an industry-leading environmental services company.

Schedule: Thursday-Monday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM with opportunities for overtime
Pay: Starting between $22.00-$23.50 per hourAbout the Position

As a Laborer, you will help maintain a safe, clean, and efficient transfer station while assisting customers and supporting daily site operations. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in construction, landscaping, warehouse operations, manufacturing, public works, recycling, waste management, or other physically active environments.

This position works outdoors year-round and requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions.

Essential Job DutiesTransfer Station Operations
  • Perform general labor and site support duties at the transfer station and compost facility

  • Complete litter collection, debris removal, and site cleanup activities

  • Assist with maintaining environmental control systems, including stormwater, landfill gas, and leachate management systems

  • Support daily facility operations as assigned

Traffic Control & Equipment Support
  • Safely direct customer, commercial, and contractor traffic throughout the facility

  • Help maintain a safe and efficient flow of vehicles entering and exiting the site

  • Operate small equipment and tools after receiving appropriate training

  • Identify and report safety concerns or operational issues

Customer Service
  • Provide professional and courteous service to customers

  • Explain site procedures and safety requirements

  • Assist customers with navigating the facility safely and efficiently

  • Serve as a positive representative of Waste Connections within the community

Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures

  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Maintain a safe work environment for employees, customers, and contractors

  • Participate in safety meetings and training programs

Work Environment

This is an outdoor position. Employees may be exposed to:

  • Rain, wind, snow, heat, and changing weather conditions

  • Dust, noise, mud, and odors commonly associated with transfer station operations

  • Heavy equipment and vehicle traffic

  • Uneven walking surfaces

Required Qualifications
  • One year of stable work experience in a labor, customer service, warehouse, construction, landscaping, manufacturing, or similar environment

  • Ability to regularly lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical work throughout the shift

  • Strong work ethic and dependable attendance

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
