Job description

As a Consultant at Harbor, you will engage with colleagues who are smart, innovative, and eager to meet new challenges. An entrepreneurial spirit and positive "can-do" attitude are the common threads that unites us to drive forward and succeed.
The Associate Consultant is an early-career professional who demonstrates the ability to contribute independently to client projects while continuing to build depth in technical and consulting expertise. Consultants are expected to balance strong client-service skills with growing technical proficiency, managing multiple deliverables in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
At this level, Consultants move beyond foundational execution by taking ownership of discrete workstreams, applying problem-solving skills to moderately complex challenges, and contributing to process improvements. They are relied upon to communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders, maintain a high billable utilization rate, and adapt quickly to new technologies or shifting client needs. This role represents the transition from a support-focused contributor to an independent consultant who consistently delivers value while continuing to learn under the guidance of senior colleagues.
Responsibilities:
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively in both verbal and written formats with technical staff, business users, and management personnel.
  • Manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment, adapting to shifting priorities while maintaining quality and timeliness.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues and clients through advanced interpersonal skills and professional client service.
  • Apply strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills to resolve moderately complex technical and functional challenges.
  • Quickly adopt new skills and adjust to challenging priorities, technologies, and client requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of applications or integrations within defined frameworks.
  • Recognize recurring or moderately complex issues and contribute to the development of effective solutions with guidance from senior consultants.
  • Recommend improvements to tools, processes, or designs based on project experience and client feedback.
  • Support knowledge sharing by documenting lessons learned, contributing to process documentation, and assisting junior team members when possible.
  • Take ownership of focused client-facing workstreams or deliverables, ensuring completion on time and to a high standard.
  • Proactively provide updates to project leads and clients regarding task status, risks, or potential roadblocks.
  • Serve in a primarily client-facing capacity, participating on camera for client meetings and engaging in occasional in-person client interactions as requested.
  • Participate in solution design discussions, offering input based on practical project experience and emerging technical skills.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, attention to detail, and sound time management when managing client and internal deliverables.
Qualifications:
  • Have permanent US work authorization.
  • Open to remote applicants in US and Canada. Strong preference for Chicago-based applicants who can work up to 2-3 days per week from the Chicago office.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, Economics, Marketing, or Accounting preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant work experience within a professional services firm is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of APIs, support tools, and languages such as REST, JSON, Postman, Swagger, and SOAP.
  • Working knowledge of query languages including SQL, XQuery, JQuery, or T-SQL.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Groovy, JavaScript, PowerShell, Visual Basic, or Python.
  • Working knowledge of technical tools such as XML, HTML, IIS, SSL, and SSO.
  • Working knowledge of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) concepts using tools such as Dell Boomi, Intapp Integrate, Azure Data Factory, or SSIS is desirable.
  • Experience with legal technology systems such as Aderant, Expert, Elite 3E, Elite Enterprise, AX Dynamics, ProLaw, iManage, or NetDocuments is desirable.
  • Knowledge in legal operations or accounting operations is desirable.
  • Foundational knowledge of Microsoft Azure Data Factory (ADF) object types such as Pipelines, Datasets, Dataflows, Linked Services, and Integration Runtimes is desirable.
  • Experience with one or more Intapp products (e.g., Conflicts, Intake, Terms, Time, Walls, Integrate, or Intapp Services) is desirable.
  • Experience using reporting tools such as Sisense or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is desirable.
  • Proven analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong ability to collect, analyze, summarize, and organize data.
  • Ability to build trust as a dependable resource within the project team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional computer skills including advanced proficiency in Microsoft products.
  • Travel - Occasional travel may be required (domestic or international).
