OB/GYN Nurse
Job Description
To provide nursing guidance and support in the OB/GYN Department, adhere to all policies and procedures of MMC, and meet the needs of patients in a teamwork approach.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting and involves frequent telephone contact, as well as face-to-face communication with patients. Interactions with others in constant and interruptive. There is possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, bodily fluids, and other conditions common to medical practice. Varied activities including walking, bending, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), stooping, assisting patients and sitting for extended periods of time may occur. Also, occasional stress from multiple responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
  • Represent MMC in a courteous and professional manner
  • Greet guests and incoming calls in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner
  • Set up exam rooms; assist doctor/provider in office exams and procedures.
  • Assist patients to rooms, perform proper intake, begin office note, and enter requested lab and x-ray orders in the EMR.
  • Maintain mammogram and PAP smear log
  • Provide patients with proper education concerning medication and treatment
  • Clean exam rooms after use.
  • Be flexible when asked to stay past your scheduled work time (as needed) to accommodate the needs of patients
  • Must complete all Healthstream assignments on time
  • Plan, prioritize and organize work load to maintain efficient patient/client operation in the department
  • Communicates with patients about lab results, questions, medications, symptoms etc.
  • Notify patients of test results as directed by doctor/provider and chart all contacts.
  • Process prescription refill requests
  • Administer injections, maintain and disperse drugs from supply closet.
  • Chart all communications with patients, call prescriptions to pharmacy as directed by doctor/provider, file labwork, radiology reports and other documents in patient chart.
  • Complete prior authorizations for medications, MRI's, etc.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and accurate patient service
  • Meet or exceed patient, doctor, and staff expectations through a cooperative, teamwork approach
  • Knowledgeable of the female anatomy
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all MMC policies and procedures.
  • With instruction, perform other duties as required or assigned
