Job Summary: The Industrial Buyer in the Gulf Market is responsible for profitably sourcing and procuring scrap, raw materials, components, and equipment from fabricators, processors, manufacturers and service providers involved in downstream metals. This role involves evaluating potential suppliers, identifying beneficial buying opportunities, negotiating contracts, managing inbound logistics, settling sortation reports and managing inventory to support efficient production operations. Additionally, an Industrial Buyer must have strong analytical skills to track business performance for continual profit optimization. Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and procure raw materials, including metals such as stainless steel and nickel alloys, aluminum, copper, tungsten, tool steels and other valuable metals.
  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on product quality, cost, reliability of supply and supplier adherence to industry standards and specifications.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement and favorable delivery schedules with a view to company profitability.
  • Proactively seek new accounts and optimize volumes with existing accounts
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including production, engineering, and quality assurance, to understand procurement needs and support project timelines.
  • Monitor market dynamics, pricing and inventory levels and manage reorder processes to maintain optimal stock levels and avoid production delays.
  • Coordinate logistics and transportation for incoming materials to ensure timely delivery and minimize supply chain disruptions.
  • Manage suppliersโ€™ expectations for prompt settlements and payments of product deliveries.
  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations, address quality issues, and resolve supply chain challenges to maintain uninterrupted production.
  • Stay updated on market trends, pricing fluctuations, and regulatory changes affecting the metal industry to inform procurement decisions.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives, vendor consolidation strategies, and supply chain optimization measures to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, contracts, pricing agreements, and supplier communications.
  • Maintain Alliedโ€™s social media presence and update website content and functionality as needed.
Requirements:

Qualifications and Skills:

  • BA degree preferably in business or engineering disciplines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic and diverse company.
  • Experience with customer service and supply chain management is desirable
  • Previous experience in procurement or supply chain roles within the metal industry, with knowledge of metal types, grades, and specifications.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with metal fabrication processes, industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ASME, SAE), and quality assurance (ISO) requirements.
  • Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis, reporting, and procurement workflows.
  • Analytical mindset, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail in managing complex procurement projects and contracts.
  • Understanding of logistics, transportation, and inventory management principles applicable to metal materials and supplies.
  • Certification in procurement, supply chain management, or relevant industry certifications is desirable

Work Environment:

The Industrial Buyer in the metal industry has an outside sales/purchasing role and will be expected to travel in the Gulf Coast market 90% of the time. Positive collaboration with suppliers, colleagues and customers is essential. Occasional travel outside of the Gulf market may be required for visits with suppliers and colleagues, industry events, or logistics coordination.
