Job description

Qualifications:  

  1. Have relevant grounds experience and/or maintenance in a comparable work environment.
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent.  Be able to read, write, and comprehend written and oral instructions.
  3. Have a valid State of Kansas Driver's License.
  4. Possesses a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service.
  5. Meet all job standards in a time sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor.
  6. Ability to work unsupervised or within a team.  Demonstrate ability to meet quality and quantity standards and on time requirements.
  7. Meet District grooming and interpersonal standards.
  8. Meet all District safety requirements.
  9. Be able to work 40-hour workweek; setup for activities shall include some evening and weekend events.
  10. Be willing and able to work overtime including some evenings and weekends.

Reports to: Grounds Manager/Director of Operations
Job Goal: Keep all assigned facilities mowed, edged, and trimmed.  Paint/stripe athletic practice fields for each season (district-wide) and prep baseball/softball fields for games during the season.  Clean up after outside events.  During the off-season this position would turn into a maintenance positions.  
Performance Responsibilities: 


  1. Mow and trim assigned areas, which includes weeding, edging, and push mowing.
  2. Ensure mowers and grounds equipment are maintained.
  3. Aerate and seed as needed
  4. Trim hedges, shrubs, and trees
  5. Perform general landscaping related tasks
  6. Mark Athletic Fields as required.  Clean up trash as needed district wide.
  7. Set-up for Athletic Events as required.
  8. Apply Lawn Chemicals as required.
  9. Perform minor maintenance on grounds equipment
  10. Assist in moving, hauling and rearranging furniture as required.
  11. Remove snow/ice from parking lots and sidewalks as needed.
  12. Complete work orders as required
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  1. Manage job requirements with physical mobility to move from place to place (walking, standing, stooping, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling, turning, reaching, climbing, balancing, lift up to 60 pounds on a daily basis), and use large, heavy equipment.
  2. Must work in and around dust, fumes and odors.
  3. Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
  4. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round in a variety of temperatures/conditions.

Terms of Employment: Twelve-month at-will position. 40 hour work week or as established by the Board. Schedules or shifts may be altered depending upon the critical nature or emergency circumstances of the job. Work hours will be determined as required by conditions. Vacation and sick day allowances included in District Personnel Policy.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy as stated in the Classified Handbook.
