Job description

Produces dry pet food products using an industrial grinder/extruder machine.

Essential Position Responsibilities 

  • Operate grinder/extruder ensuring proper operation of the machine.  Makes adjustments as needed, accurately records written data tied to individual batches as it enters extrusion. Data is reported to quality assurance.    

  • Mixes proper ingredients at correct temperature, supplies and loads any material needed for the proper mixture of pet food. Changes screens and rotation of hammers through touch screen computer. 

Participates as a member of the Team.  Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.  Attends appropriate team meetings.  As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.  Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives:  Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Grinder Opr/Extruder Assistant and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.

Physical Activities:  Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees), work on feet entire shift, lift up to 55 pounds of material or product from floor to shoulder height repetitively, climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of 150 feet, and work inside or outside. Bending and stooping in tight enclosed area when required. See and use electronic screens.  

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Will use head covering, ear plugs (as needed), safety glasses, skid resistant steel toe shoes and any other protective equipment as needed or required.

Travel: 

Technical Experience: Basic understanding of computer usage is required.  Forklift license preferred, will need to obtain license once in position.  Heavy machinery experience preferred.  

Industry Experience:  Preferred pet food production
