ID/OD Grind Operator (CNC)

Night Shift (20% night shift pay differential)

Defense & Aerospace Machine Shop

Location: 3617 E La Salle St, Phoenix, AZ 85040

SHIFT: Night Shift (20% night shift pay differential)

ID / OD Grind Machinist

Setup and Operate grinding machines to produce parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications for aerospace applications. Manual and CNC grinders.

Machines used are Heald ID, Toyoda OD manual and CNC, Okamoto CNC ID & OD, and Kellenberger CNC.

Grind Machinist Duties / Responsibilities

  • Setup & operate to produce high precision aerospace components on ferrous and non-ferrous materials
  • Ability to setup and grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc. onto surfaces
  • Complete all required paperwork properly โ€“ inspection reports, SPC, job travelers, etc.
  • Ability to hold tolerances of .0002โ€ - .0005โ€ while maintaining a high level of productivity
  • Able to work independently and stay on task โ€“ operate 2 machines regularly
  • Ability to problem solve and communicate process improvement suggestions with management

Grind Machinist Required Skills / Abilities

  • Familiarity with Toyoda, Okamoto, and Kellenberger Grinders, Heald a plus
  • Proficient with standard types of inspection equipment โ€“ Indicating Micrometers, Bore Gages, Sunnen Gage, & Test Indicators
  • Read and interpret of B/Pโ€™s including assemblies, dimensions, tolerances, symbols, notes, abbreviations, GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing), and any other standard nomenclature per customer, government, or industry standards and following directions
  • Experience in grinding holding tolerances of .0002โ€ - .0005โ€ preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, quality-focused, and willing to learn
  • General knowledge of standard shop practices and equipment

Grind Machinist Education / Experience

  • High School or GED
  • CNC experience preferred but not required
  • 5+ years ID/OD grinding experience preferred, but will train lathe or mill machinist looking to grow in one of the most complete grind departments in the valley.
