Summary

The Seasonal Greenhouse Worker will have the opportunity to be cross trained in several areas of the greenhouse. Assertive, self-directed and pragmatic team members create an environment that ensures superior quality and service to our customers. This position is seasonal.

Role Responsibilities

  • Harvest minitubers by cooperatively working on a team following the pace and instruction of a team lead
  • Handle plants carefully to avoid damage
  • Harvest minitubers accurately to size at a steady pace
  • Remove yellow or dead leaves from plants being harvested
  • Sweep greenhouse of all trash throughout the day
  • Accurately record variety information into iPad and computer system
  • Wash dishes, clean bathrooms, sweep and mop greenhouses, headhouse and breakroom, take out trash as needed or according to schedule
  • Birthing - Assist the Lab lead with transfer and preparation of plants from lab to greenhouse
  • Planting – delicately transfer plantlets from birthing trays to greenhouse hydroponic trays according to planting map
  • Sizing-Safely operate sizing machine to ensure minitubers are correctly sized while keeping variety information accurate
  • Counting- Accurately count minitubers and record all required information on identification tags
  • Propagation - Rapid multiplication of tissue culture plantlets using sterile technique
  • Lab Media - Follow recipes to produce media for tissue culture plantlets using sterile technique
  • Greenhouse Prep - dress trays, string hoses, cut plastic to correct size, read planting maps
  • Facilities-Assist the facilities manager with any duties needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Willing and able to complete training orientation period
  • Able to flex work schedule as needed based on seasonal demands of an agricultural operation which may include weekends as needed periodically
  • Willingness and ability to work with whomever and wherever you are scheduled
  • Complete basic math calculations
  • Have a high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with co-workers and have positive references
  • Self-directed, yet consensus driven, with the ability to implement solutions with team input

Expected Hours of Work

  • Greenhouse production is highly seasonal. During busy periods, employees may be scheduled for additional hours/days to meet production demands.
  • During slower periods, scheduled hours may be reduced. Flexibility and reliability are essential for success in this role.
  • Season: August-October
  • Typically, daily hours are 7AM to 3:30 PM Monday-Friday
