What Does a Greenhouse Manager Do?

A greenhouse manager oversees the daily operations of a greenhouse. Their duties include hiring and training new staff, managing schedules, and directing staff on tasks, such as the propagation, cultivation, and harvesting of plants. As a greenhouse manager, you may work on a farm, for a large, commercial agricultural operation, or in a horticulture department on a college campus. You breed and cultivate decorative or functional trees, shrubs, and flowers. You are responsible for daily inspections of the facility to ensure the conditions are optimal for the plants and handling any diseases or pests that may appear in the greenhouse.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Greenhouse Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Greenhouse Manager, you need expertise in horticulture, crop management, and pest control, usually supported by a degree in agriculture or plant science. Greenhouse Managers often face challenges such as maintaining optimal environmental conditions, managing pest and disease outbreaks, and efficiently coordinating staff schedules.
