Job description

Greek Affairs Programming - Sororities
Graduate Assistant Position
Cumberland University, a private, independent liberal arts institution, is seeking a mature, energetic, and student-centered Greek Affairs Graduate Assistant to help facilitate and manage the daily operations of the sororities in the Greek Affairs office, including supervision and development of student staff members, residents, and Greek leaders. This position is for individuals seeking a graduate assistant position.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the senior staff team within the Student Affairs department
  • Participates in department meetings and event functions including up to 20 hours a week
  • Maintain Greek Life Calendar and Campus App Calendar as related to Greek Life events
  • Assist in the set-up, implementation, and tear down of Greek life Events, including monthly Greek workshops, leadership trainings, awareness weeks, and fundraisers
  • Help chaperone on campus events and help with large scale yearly events including orientation, welcome week, homecoming, fall fest, community events, spring awards, exam week events, graduation, Greek Week, sorority/fraternity recruitment, Greek formal, and Greek in-services. Be available to chaperone off campus events as needed
  • Work with marketing events for Greek events
  • Coordinator and oversee Panhellenic Council and Greek Council
  • Oversee semester/yearly reports and awards for all Greek Organizations
  • Oversee Gamma Sigma Alpha Honor Society, including paperwork, initiations, and invitations for recruitment
  • Develop positive relationships with students
  • Uphold and enforce Cumberland University policies/procedures and respond to crisis and emergency situations.
  • Support and develop the Cumberland University core values
  • Participate in programming activities and meetings as a member of the Student Affairs Division
  • Serve as adviser for assigned student groups (when available)
  • Report to and complete other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students or Director of Student Life

Additionally, Greek Affairs Graduate Assistants will have the opportunity to directly influence and assist with Student Affairs to help develop and frame their graduate assistantship experience. Graduate Assistants within the office may be asked to hold judicial hearings, develop/implement events for Greek Affairs, work with the Acessibility Services Office, advise/ lead the Student Programming Board, and participate in Summer Orientation and Freshman Seminar courses.
Qualifications
  • Minimum
    • One - Two-year commitment to Cumberland University
    • Greek Life experience preferred.
    • Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
    • Admission (or anticipated admission*) in an accredited degree-granting graduate program at Cumberland University and maintained academic performance (3.0 GPA per semester)
    • Proven history of self-discipline and commitment to responsibilities
    • Maintain good judicial and behavioral standing with Cumberland University, local, state, and federal laws.
    • Exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse populations.
    • Possess knowledge of teamwork, leadership, time and stress management, planning/organizing, problem solving, crisis management, conflict resolution, diverse cultural appreciation, and helping skills
    • Maintain a high academic standard while working as a Graduate Assistant
    • Must be willing to work from 08:00 to 12:00 or 13:00 to 16:30/17:00 each day and be on call; events may come up as well where the GA will need to be available.
    • Must be able to communicate and act in a professional manner.
