Job description

Graphic designers combine art and technology to communicate ideas through images and the layout of websites and printed pages. They may use a variety of design elements to achieve artistic or decorative effects. Work with both text and images. Select the type, font, size, color, and line length of headlines, headings, and text. Decide how images and text will go together on a print or webpage, including how much space each will have. When using text in layouts, collaborate closely with writers who choose the words and decide whether the words will be put into paragraphs, lists, or tables. Through the use of images, text, and color, transform statistical data into visual graphics and diagrams, which can make complex ideas more accessible. Demonstrates analytic, communication and time-management skills. Possess creative and artistic ability.
Duties
  • Update and maintain SI website with relevant, accurate and timely information.
  • Translate ideas and concepts into professional, web-based products.
  • Graphics Designer will ensure the design and layout of all reports, documents, and publications are easily transferred to and retrievable from the SI website.
  • Share institutional knowledge and experience to facilitate an effective and efficient service.
  • Ensure the SI website is professionally formatted and maintained in accordance with NGA and SI standards.
  • Utilize strong graphic design skills to improve design aspects of the SI website utilizing best practices and design principles that generate aesthetic graphics, easy use, and innovative styles.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to written submissions, format, navigation, design, etc., to produce a user-friendly, well organized, and modernized website appearance.
  • Develop automated web-based tools as required.
  • Manage information content - identify, coordinate, and delete outdated or obsolete information; include value-added news and/or features; maintain consistency across SI web pages.
  • Coordinate with SI offices as well as other NGA offices/components to obtain and post supplemental information, links, etc.
  • Maintain website records (e.g., history, authors, contributors, revision dates, etc.).
  • Develop a maintenance plan for maintaining the website with current and accurate information at all times.
  • Support unique initiatives from for web page design, content organization, and special projects (e.g., surveys, reporting, etc.) that require technical fluency to generate databases, programs, and designs within NGA system capabilities.
  • Support unique initiatives for SharePoint design, content organization, and special projects that require technical fluency to generate libraries, lists, databases, programs, and designs within Customer system capabilities.
  • Manage project tasks by prioritizing workload, multitasking, and effectively interacting with a wide range of people (orally and in writing).
  • Ability to convert existing intranet and internet applications into a Microsoft SharePoint environment, while maintaining the equivalent functionality for both the user level and management for reports and metrics development.

Required
  • Shall have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Graphics Designer/Visualization Specialist field.
  • Shall have demonstrated experience updating and maintaining websites with relevant, accurate and timely information in the IC, NGA, DoD or Federal government environments.
  • Shall have demonstrated experience working on Windows platforms and using Adobe Creative Suite software and Sharepoint.

Desired
  • Demonstrated experience as a Graphic Designer/Visualization supporting IC, NGA, DoD or Federal government missions.
  • Demonstrated experience with conceptual design.

Education
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Graphics Designer/Visualization Specialist field.
  • Shall have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the related field.
