This role applies graphic design principles to create high-quality visual content that communicates technical and scientific information in clear, engaging, and accessible formats for diverse audiences.
The Graphic Designer is responsible for designing and producing a wide range of materials, including infographics, presentations, event collateral, social media graphics, digital campaign assets, and print materials. The role ensures all products align with organizational branding standards, accessibility requirements, and communication objectives.
Working independently on assigned tasks, the Graphic Designer collaborates with communications specialists, subject matter experts, and project teams to translate complex environmental and scientific concepts into effective visual designs. The role supports both planned outreach initiatives and rapid-turnaround design needs for events, campaigns, and time-sensitive communications.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and produce graphics for digital and print formats using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Develop visual assets for outreach campaigns, including infographics, social media graphics, presentations, and educational materials
  • Create event-related materials such as signage, posters, presentation templates, handouts, and promotional collateral
  • Translate weather, climate, and environmental science data into visually compelling and easy-to-understand graphics
  • Ensure all deliverables meet accessibility standards and organizational branding requirements
  • Collaborate with communications teams, scientists, analysts, and project stakeholders to align visuals with messaging and audience needs
  • Prepare final production-ready files for print and digital distribution across multiple platforms
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in graphic design or visual communications
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and standard design tools
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience with digital and print design deliverables
  • Experience creating data visualizations, infographics, or science-related communications preferred
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and production requirements for print and digital materials preferred
  • Experience supporting government, environmental, scientific, or technical communications initiatives preferred
