Job description

America's second oldest horse racing track, the Fair Grounds has been a New Orleans staple since 1852. We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the repair and upkeep of the property including but not limited to barns, grandstand, office buildings, OTB parlor and grounds.
Under the direct supervision of a higher-level operation or maintenance employee, the employee performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair or operation of various installations and facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
  • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
  • Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.
  • Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand. Cuts and threads pipe. Join pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints.
  • Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
  • Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners. Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers within leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
You must be 21 years old and have a valid driver's license and able to obtain a Louisiana Racing License.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent; two years of prior plumbing experience in facilities preferred. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common documentation. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from team members, regulatory agencies or members of the staff. Ability to write and present information to management in a reasonable manner. Ability to perform normal mathematical computations about the implementation of current duties. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draws valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables.

Casino environment; Subject to outdoor temperature; Exposed bright lights and noise at times. The work environment consists of very non-demanding surroundings with a low noise level. Will occasionally work in extreme heat or cold conditions.
