Job description

A position within the Purchasing Team at Kalmbach Feeds is an engaging opportunity that allows an individual to have a real impact on the company’s bottom line. This position will require interface between Nutrition, Sales, Pricing, Marketing, and Production. The Grain Procurement position will have the opportunity to identify new suppliers, new sources, and new ingredients based upon nutritional needs and opportunities that arise.

The Grain Procurement role will focus on purchasing grain from area farmers to be used in manufacturing feed. Daily tasks include regular communication with farm customers to discuss market factors and opportunities. Communication will primarily be over the phone. Additionally, face to face contact and the ability to build key relationships is important in the position. A strong understanding of the futures market and how the various mechanisms work (futures, options, basis, spreads) is a strong attribute to this role. The individual will need to strategically position themselves in response to daily market changes. This position will develop, manage, and sell various contracting strategies. Attention to detail is needed to keep and accurately track contracts and positions. Managing and maintaining supplier relationships and responding to customers’ needs will be essential tasks.

  • Team oriented to support purchasing and nutrition in the sourcing of new product suppliers and origins.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
