Job description

Come join the Aztalan Bio team as the next Grains Merchandiser and play a key role in building strong grower relationships, driving grain marketing opportunities, and supporting the future of agriculture. The Grain Merchandiser plays a vital role in ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality grains for ethanol production. This position focuses on sourcing and purchasing grain, primarily corn, by leveraging market analysis and supplier relationships to optimize costs and quality. The specialist will collaborate with internal teams to align procurement strategies with production needs and operational goals, while also monitoring market trends to inform decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with grain suppliers to secure optimal pricing and quality for corn and other grains used in ethanol production.
  • Monitor grain market trends, prices, and availability to inform purchasing decisions and strategic sourcing.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring timely delivery and quality assurance.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to monitor grain inventory levels and ensure sufficient supply for production needs.
  • Negotiate and administer contracts with grain suppliers, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
  • Prepare and present procurement reports and forecasts to management, providing insights on market conditions and procurement strategies.
  • Work closely with the finance and operations teams to align procurement strategies with overall business objectives.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, agriculture, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in the grain procurement, supply chain management, agricultural industry, or the ethanol industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of commodities markets and trends.
  • Strong understanding of the grain procurement process.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle to use for farm visits.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Primary work environment is an office setting, however, occasionally will enter the plant environment.
  • Mostly sedentary, some light lifting of files, supplies, or equipment is required.
  • Regularly required to walk, sit talk, and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This position may enter the plant environment, in which the employee may be exposed to moderate to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, and/or to chemicals used in the process.
  • Personal Protective Equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, flame-resistant clothing, and hearing protection may be required when in the plant.
