Job description

Title: OT Graduate Student Worker

Overview:

The OT Graduate Student Worker (GSW) will support the OT department and faculty by hosting weekly open lab hours, providing teaching assistance in specific OT lab courses, maintain the organization and cleanliness of OT classroom spaces, post resources and events for OT students, complete organizational or teaching-related tasks for individual OT faculty on an as needed basis, and monitor the borrowing of materials from the OT department for student project or clinic needs. 

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

OT Graduate Student Workers are expected to work 10 hrs/week while classes are in session.

  • Host weekly open labs - department aims to have open labs times spread throughout the week, for several hours each session, with 1 -2 GSWs staffing the labs
  • Assist faculty in teaching activities or classroom preparation/clean-up for specific OT lab courses 
  • Clean and organize classroom spaces - Wipe down classroom tables at end of open lab, stock classrooms for tissues, cleaning wipes, and paper towels, maintain cleanliness of CHS 204 kitchen space, organize closet spaces in 208 & 212 with input from faculty, update closet inventory sheets yearly
  • Maintain classroom and hallway bulletin boards with upcoming events and important information
  • Prepare OT spaces for Open Houses or other recruitment events
  • Monitor and track items borrowed from the department by students for class projects or clinic needs
  • Complete organizational or teaching-related tasks for individual faculty on an as needed basis 

Work requirements:

  • Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, and students respectfully, clearly, and compassionately.
  • Maintain confidentiality with any faculty, class, or student materials containing sensitive information.
  • Possess technical skills with Microsoft office suite apps, Zoom, and Canva.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Candidate Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities):

  • Must be a currently enrolled, full-time, occupational therapy student in good standing, in their senior year of study at Ithaca College.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and follow through on assignments by deadlines.
  • Soft skills preferred for this position: approachable, creative, flexible, and readily apply feedback.
  • Previous TA, tutoring, or leadership experience is preferred.
