Description
Columbia Safety and Supply is seeking a driven and relationship-focused Government Account Manager with experience in industrial distribution, government procurement, and transactional B2B sales. This role is ideal for someone who understands how to navigate government buying channels and has experience working with or selling to government organizations.
You will manage and grow a portfolio of government accounts while developing new business opportunities within the public sector industrial supply space, competing in similar markets.
This is a high-activity, transactional sales role focused on responsiveness, account penetration, and consistent execution.
Key Responsibilities
Account Growth & Management
  • Manage and grow assigned government and public sector accounts, state agencies, and municipal organizations
  • Identify new opportunities within existing accounts and expand product penetration across MRO and safety supply categories
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of transactional and recurring supply opportunities

Government Sales & Procurement Navigation
  • Work within government procurement frameworks including GSA schedules, TAA compliance, SLED/SLEA environments, and federal contracting requirements
  • Understand and support purchasing workflows such as purchase orders, credit card (GPC) buying, and bid-based procurement processes
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable government purchasing and contract regulations

Sales Execution
  • Execute pricing, quoting, and order management in alignment with company guidelines
  • Use a structured sales process to identify needs, overcome objections, and close opportunities efficiently
  • Maintain accurate pipeline forecasting and account activity tracking
  • Represent Columbia Safety and Supply at relevant industry or government-related events when applicable

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required Skills
  • Experience in industrial distribution, MRO sales, government contracting, or transactional outside sales
  • Familiarity with government procurement processes (GSA, TAA compliance, SLED, or military base purchasing systems)
  • Experience working with or selling into public sector accounts (federal, state, local, or military)

Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of safety supply, PPE, MRO, or industrial consumables
  • Experience with CRM systems and pipeline management tools
