Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Content Marketing Specialist at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for operating independently to contribute to the Garmin.com blog by generating original ideas and completing stories to help readers understand Garmin products, features, and marketing stories in alignment with Garmin business objectives.
Essential Functions
  • Develop original/creative concepts for blog posts designed to attract new/existing Garmin customers
  • Independently oversee a story idea from conception to publication, including initial research, producing creative copy, and guiding it through the editing/approval process to build for publication while collaborating with other departments to ensure promotion/maximum readership
  • Utilize thorough understanding of Garmin's business segments and marketing objectives to determine without management direction which topics are chosen for coverage to attract readership
  • Analyze/develop a plan to optimize content for maximum performance on search engines like Google
  • Act as a Garmin "reporter" conducting interviews with both internal/external parties, following through on "leads," and developing stories that adhere to Associate Press (AP) style
  • Manage library of content currently existing on Garmin.com blog to ensure accuracy, timeliness, relevance, and updated marketing objectives and exercise independent judgment to analyze and assess content, develop a plan of action, and then edit/remove content as appropriate
  • Collaborate with other departments to recommend, develop, and execute integrated content campaigns inclusive of blog, PR, social and eblast as assigned
  • Independently manage multiple time sensitive projects simultaneously, using discretion to establish priorities and triage urgent matters
  • Complete other Garmin.com duties as assigned by the Content Marketing Manager

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Journalism, or related field
  • Must possess a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated professional experience as a journalist, communications strategist, marketing specialist, writer, or content curator
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision with proven ability to work under deadlines
  • Demonstrated aptitude and experience writing and editing both long and short form content
  • Demonstrated understanding of content marketing strategy and implementation
  • Experience optimizing content, taking Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Google Analytics into consideration
  • Strong passion for Garmin business and products
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Sprinklr, WordPress or other content management software
  • Understanding of web publishing requirements
  • Must possess demonstrated editorial mindset with an ability to predict audience preferences
  • Must possess excellent communication and writing skills in the English language
  • Portfolio must demonstrate creativity and a proven ability to write for traditional media outlets and digital mediums
  • Must be comfortable discussing and developing big-picture content strategy and able to digest complex information, transforming it into easy-to-understand articles or long-form content for readers
