Job description

The role:

The Food Safety Specialist ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment in the CookUnity Facility.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor production activities and ensure all chefs and employees comply with food safety regulations.
  • Assist chefs with cooking and cooling logs, safety storage and other critical tasks.
  • Perform critical checks including refrigeration, chemical concentration, temperature monitoring and equipment calibrations.
  • Conduct daily facility compliance walks, document findings, and assign corrective actions as necessary
  • Ensure the facility is always inspection-ready for local regulators and third-party auditors.
  • Collaborate with the Food Safety team to deliver chef and employee training on food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Work closely with other departments such as Kitchen Operations, Supply Chain and Maintenance to correct issues affecting food safety and quality.
  • Provide detailed reports on compliance status and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a high compliance food processing facility (USDA, FDA) or large volume food business with established food safety programs.
  • Experience working with a team in a fast paced environment.
  • Good communication skills and ability to speak in a professional manner to a wide range of partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to build relationships and explain food safety concepts in plain language.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned duties without direct supervision.
  • Proficiency G Suite/Google Workspace.
  • Team player with a positive, collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to complete tasks in cold (coolers) or hot (kitchens) environments.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
