Job description

Assistant Professor- Biomedical Engineering
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor- Biomedical Engineering at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
TheDepartment of Biomedical Engineering at Wayne State has 9 tenure-track facultyand 2 teaching faculty, with an NAE member and over $2.1M in annual researchexpenditure. The Department is home to one of the top programs in the countryfor Injury Biomechanics. The Department offers an ABET accredited B.S. degree;several M.S. degree programs (traditional and online), including an M.S. in InjuryBiomechanics; a Graduate Certificate in Injury Biomechanics; and a Ph.D. in BiomedicalEngineering or Biomedical Imaging. Currently, we have approximately 130undergraduate students, 45 M.S. and 25 Ph.D. students. The department iscommitted to building a diverse faculty preeminent in its missions of research,teaching, and service to the community. Candidates who have experience engaging with diverse faculty, staff, and students, and contributing to an inclusive environment may share their perspectives on these subjects in their application materials.
Located in MidtownDetroit, the Department of Biomedical Engineering inthe James and Patricia Anderson College of Engineering at Wayne State University(WSU) invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position,beginning in Fall 2026. For senior candidates, appointment with tenure ispossible. We particularly encourage applications from candidates whose researchfocuses on Imaging Systems (including photoacoustic imaging, opticalcoherence tomography, multimodality, molecular imaging, or other methodsrelated to organ/in vivo imaging). Outstanding candidates whose expertisecomplements existing departmental strengths in injury biomechanics,biomaterials and tissue engineering, systems biology, reproductive health,rehabilitation robotics, and traumatic brain injury, will receive specialconsideration.
Qualifications:
Candidatesshould hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field anddemonstrate a strong potentialfor excellence in both research and teaching.
