Job description

About the Role

We are a fast-growing multi-channel e-commerce company seeking a hands-on Accounting Controller to own our financial operations end to end. This is not a traditional controller role: you'll live in the day-to-day mechanics of marketplace settlements, high-SKU inventory accounting, and the integration between SellerCloud and QuickBooks that keeps our books accurate. The ideal candidate understands the unique accounting challenges of selling across Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Shopify, and other channels, and can translate that operational complexity into clean financials.

You'll be the person leadership trusts to answer "what's our real margin on this SKU?" and "did that Amazon settlement actually reconcile?"

Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting & Close

  • Own the full month-end and year-end close process, delivering accurate financials within 10 business days
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts in QuickBooks, structured to support multi-channel and multi-entity reporting
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and account reconciliations
  • Produce monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with variance analysis against budget and prior periods
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and maintain documentation for audit readiness

E-Commerce & Marketplace Accounting

  • Reconcile marketplace settlements and payouts (Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Shopify, etc.) against gross sales, fees, refunds, chargebacks, and reserves
  • Account for and reconcile payment processors (Stripe, PayPal, Amazon Pay, Affirm, etc.)
  • Track and properly classify marketplace fees, commissions, FBA/fulfillment fees, advertising spend, and promotional discounts
  • Build and maintain SKU-level COGS and gross margin reporting across all sales channels
  • Manage returns, refunds, and chargeback accounting, including reserve estimates

Inventory & Cost Accounting

  • Own inventory accounting in a high-SKU environment, ensuring SellerCloud inventory data ties to the GL
  • Calculate and maintain landed cost (product cost, freight, duties, tariffs, 3PL/warehousing) for accurate COGS
  • Oversee cycle counts and physical inventory reconciliation; investigate and resolve shrinkage and variances
  • Manage purchase order accounting, vendor bills, and inventory-in-transit
  • Monitor inventory valuation, obsolescence, and write-down reserves

Systems & Integration

  • Own and optimize the SellerCloud-to-QuickBooks data flow, ensuring orders, inventory, COGS, and fees sync accurately
  • Troubleshoot integration discrepancies between SellerCloud, QuickBooks, marketplaces, and any third-party connectors (e.g., A2X, Webgility)
  • Identify and implement process automation to reduce manual reconciliation and close time
  • Partner with operations and IT on system improvements, mappings, and data integrity

Tax, Compliance & Cash

  • Manage multi-state sales tax compliance, including economic nexus monitoring, registrations, and filings (or oversight of tools like Avalara/TaxJar)
  • Coordinate with external tax preparers and auditors
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, with particular attention to inventory purchasing cycles and marketplace payout timing

Leadership

  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff
  • Establish and document internal controls, accounting policies, and standard operating procedures
  • Serve as a financial business partner to leadership, providing insights that drive profitability and growth decisions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a controller or senior accounting role
  • Hands-on experience with SellerCloud (order management, inventory, purchasing, and reporting modules)
  • Advanced QuickBooks proficiency (Online and/or Desktop/Enterprise)
  • Demonstrated experience accounting for a multi-channel e-commerce or retail business
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, and landed cost methodology
  • Proven ability to reconcile marketplace settlements and high-volume transaction data
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, lookups, large data sets)

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA designation
  • Experience with marketplace reconciliation tools (A2X, Webgility, or similar)
  • Experience with multi-state sales tax platforms (Avalara, TaxJar)
  • Experience integrating or migrating ERP/inventory systems
  • Familiarity with Amazon FBA accounting and settlement structures
  • Experience in a high-growth or PE/VC-backed environment
  • Multi-entity or international (cross-border, multi-currency) accounting experience

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary + bonus
  • Health, dental, vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Professional development and advancement opportunity
