Heritage Landing Golf Club, located in Punta Gorda, FL, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a Director of Golf! About Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club:
Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club is a resort-style golf community in Punta Gorda, Florida, featuring a Gordon G. Lewis-remastered 18-hole, par-71 golf course with Champion Paspalum greens, tees, and fairways. The golf operation includes a fully stocked pro shop, golf cart operations, practice facilities, chipping and putting areas, and a driving range. The community also offers resort-style amenities, including pool, dining, bars, tennis, pickleball, bocce, fitness, aerobics, spa, and lifestyle spaces.
 
Compensation: $120,000 annually; Eligible for additional bonuses.
 
Position Summary:
The Director of Golf directs and oversees all aspects of golf operations at Heritage Landing Golf & Country Club. This role is responsible for delivering a high-quality member and guest experience, leading and developing the golf operations team, driving golf programming and participation, managing financial performance, and ensuring the golf operation runs in alignment with Troon standards, club policies, and community expectations.
 
The Director of Golf serves as a key property leader and works closely with the General Manager, Golf Course Superintendent, Food and Beverage, Lifestyle/Events, Accounting, Human Resources, Troon support teams, association leadership, committees, members, residents, and guests. The ideal candidate is a visible, hands-on leader who can balance service, communication, accountability, financial discipline, and daily operating details.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Golf Operations Leadership:
  • Plan, promote, direct, and manage all golf operations and golf-related activities on a daily basis.
  • Oversee golf shop operations, tee sheet management, starter/ranger functions, outside services, cart fleet operations, practice facilities, tournament operations, outings, instructional programming, and member/guest service standards.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence with associates, members, residents, guests, committees, and community stakeholders.
  • Interpret, administer, and enforce club policies, rules, regulations, dress code, pace of play standards, and Troon operating standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, professional appearance in the golf shop, cart staging areas, outside service areas, practice facilities, and related golf operation areas.
  • Oversee care, organization, and proper use of golf operation physical assets, including carts, range equipment, shop fixtures, retail displays, and related equipment.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and be available for extended hours, weekends, holidays, tournaments, member events, and peak golf demand periods as needed.
Team Leadership and Associate Development:
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, supervise, coach, and evaluate golf shop and outside service associates.
  • Lead regular golf operations meetings to communicate goals, service standards, safety expectations, training needs, programming updates, and operating priorities.
  • Develop a motivated, accountable, service-focused team with clear expectations and consistent follow-through.
  • Provide effective orientation and ongoing training for each new associate.
  • Address associate performance, complaints, member/guest concerns, and operational issues in a timely and professional manner.
Financial and Administrative Management:
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the annual golf operations budget, revenue goals, expense controls, purchasing plans, and labor plans.
  • Monitor financial reports, tee sheet activity, POS activity, retail sales, inventory, cart revenue, tournament/event revenue, payroll, and other operational metrics.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial and non-financial reporting as requested by Troon leadership, property management, and association representatives.
  • Take effective corrective action when financial or operational results are off plan. 
  • Manage golf shop merchandising, purchasing, receiving, display standards, inventory control, and cost of goods.
  • Use sound independent judgment when assessing operational issues and making decisions that support member service, efficiency, and financial performance.
Member and Guest Experience, Programming, and Events:
  • Promote a welcoming, professional, high-quality golf experience for members, residents, guests, and tournament/event participants.
  • Develop and support programming that drives participation, including leagues, clinics, member events, outings, tournaments, instructional programs, player development, and community-focused golf initiatives.
  • Provide or coordinate golf instruction and player development programs.
  • Coordinate with Food and Beverage, Lifestyle/Events, and Golf Course Maintenance to deliver golf events and club experiences that meet service standards.
  • Support marketing and communication efforts that promote golf services, events, programs, retail offerings, and facility amenities.
Interdepartmental Coordination and Club Standards:
  • Work closely with the General Manager, Golf Course Superintendent, Food and Beverage Manager, Lifestyle/Events team, Accounting, Human Resources, and Troon support teams.
  • Partner with Golf Course Maintenance on course presentation, pace of play, tournament setup, practice facility needs, cart paths, signage, and member/guest feedback.
  • Coordinate with Food and Beverage to support tournaments, outings, member events, daily service opportunities, and hospitality standards. 
  • Maintain professional relationships with members, residents, boards, committees, vendors, and community partners.
  • Maintain involvement with the PGA/LPGA, CMAA, and other professional associations, as applicable, to stay current on industry information, trends, and best practices.
Safety, Standards, and Compliance:
  • Direct and promote the golf operations safety program.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, club rules, sanitation and safety standards, licensing expectations, cash handling procedures, and service standards.
  • Use and enforce proper procedures for cart staging, cart fleet use, range operations, POS transactions, tee sheet management, inventory controls, and cash controls.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead a team in a member-focused private club, bundled community, resort, or high-volume golf environment.
  • Strong customer service skills and professional judgment.
  • Ability to resolve concerns, make decisions, and communicate clearly under pressure.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, expense management, revenue generation, labor planning, inventory control, retail merchandising, golf instruction, tournaments, outings, and player development.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, POS systems, tee sheet management platforms, and related golf operations technology.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English to perform job duties and communicate with members, guests, associates, vendors, and leadership.
Education, Certifications, and Experience:
  • Class A PGA or LPGA membership preferred. PGA Member or PGA Associate in good standing required unless equivalent experience is approved.
  • Bachelor’s degree or PGM degree preferred.
  • Four to six years of related golf operations leadership experience required; private club, bundled community, resort, or multi-department golf environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a professional, efficient, high-quality, service-oriented golf operation.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial reporting, labor, expense control, retail inventory, and golf-related revenue.
  • Experience hiring, training, developing, and supervising golf operations associates.
  • Experience with golf instruction, player development, tournaments, outings, and member events.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and handle or operate objects and equipment.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Frequently works outdoors in Florida weather conditions.
  • Moderate exposure to heat, cold, humidity, wet conditions, dust, pollens, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, and moderate noise levels.
  • Requires extended hours during golf season, holidays, tournaments, member events, weekends, and peak demand periods.
