Job description

THE ROLE: Director, CTO (Configure-to-Order) Architect

About Us:

The Digital Transformation Office is a function critical to the continued success and growth of Pure Storage. Its charter encompasses driving growth and faster business outcomes through IT.

Your Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled, visionary Principal IT Technologist with a proven track record of thought leadership, deep technical mastery, and strong business acumen to join our dynamic IT organization at a Principal/Architect level. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where the individual will serve as the lead technical and functional architect, spearheading transformative, cross-functional projects across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate will possess end-to-end depth and breadth, specifically experienced in designing, building, and implementing a modern Configure-to-Order (CTO) Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ) platform and driving its seamless, robust integration across the entire quote-to-cash process-all the way through Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Key Responsibilities: Driving Transformative IT Architecture

  • CTO/CPQ Architectural Leadership: Serve as the principal architect for the end-to-end CTO/CPQ solution - partnering with product management and engineering teams - in defining the technical roadmap, selecting appropriate technologies, and guiding the implementation to ensure the platform is scalable, performant, and aligned with future business models (e.g., subscription, consumption-based services).
  • Cross-Functional Solution Design: Design and govern the integration architecture between CPQ, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), ERP (Finance, Fulfillment), PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), and Order Management Systems, ensuring master data consistency and seamless transaction flow from quote generation to order fulfillment and invoicing.
  • Complex Configuration & Pricing Modeling: Define sophisticated, data-driven product and service models, Bill of Materials (BOM) structures, advanced configuration rules, and compatibility/dependency logic, enabling commercial teams to accurately configure and price complex, customized solutions.

Governance and Standardization: Establish best practices for configuration rule authoring, maintenance, and deployment (rules engine management), standardizing data constructs for one-time purchases, subscriptions, and service models to ensure high data quality and a single source of truth for product definition.

  • Strategic Initiative Execution: Partner with the execution teams of major transformative projects, migrating existing legacy systems and business processes to the new CTO paradigm, minimizing disruption and maximizing business value.
  • Operational Enablement: Architect the CPQ system for high maintainability and autonomy, specifically during high-velocity periods like New Product Introduction (NPI), allowing business operations and administrative teams to manage product life cycles and configuration changes with minimal IT dependency.
  • We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in compliance with Pure's policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.

WHAT YOU BRING

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: A Master's degree is required in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative/technical field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in IT, with a significant emphasis on designing, implementing, and managing large-scale enterprise applications and integrated platforms.
  • Domain Knowledge: Deep, practical understanding of critical business processes, including:
    • Go-to-Market (GTM) strategies.
    • Subscription and Recurring Revenue Management.
    • End-to-end ERP/Order-to-Cash business processes and solutions.

Technical Expertise (Configure-to-Order - CTO & CPQ):

  • CPQ & Master Data: Experienced with various CTO data constructs (one-time purchase, subscription, service models) and leveraging master data to power the CPQ platform.
  • Architecture & Rules: Ability to define data-driven configuration architecture (where and how rules are housed) across a rules engine and master data repository.
  • Scalability & Maintenance: Knowledgeable about ensuring the scalability and maintainability of CPQ systems throughout New Product Introduction (NPI) and product lifecycles, enabling autonomy for operations and administrative personas.
  • Modeling & Logic: Ability to define scalable product models, Bill of Materials (BOM) structures, configuration rules, and compatibility logic (rule types, logic, bundle creation, etc.).
  • Transformative Initiatives: Expertise in implementing transformative initiatives, migrating organizations toward CTO across CRM, ERP, PLM, and order management systems.
  • Integrations: Knowledge of APIs, middleware, event-driven architectures, and master data flow.
