Job description

Description
The Middlebury College Summer Portuguese School announces an opening for a temporary Instructor of Portuguese. The position is available during the summer 2018 session, located on Middlebury College campus in Vermont. Our unique 7-week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is an opportunity to join a community of learners, by actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing and recreating with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in Portuguese.
In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided.
Qualifications
We are looking for a faculty member with the following characteristics: Experience teaching Portuguese as a second language in the U.S. and experience teaching Portuguese Linguistics or Brazilian/Portuguese/African Portuguese Literature. Ability to teach a cultural /interdisciplinary module such as: music, poetry, arts, politics, history, Business Portuguese, African heritage, Cultural Studies of Portuguese Africa; other (open). The successful candidate is expected to possess a Ph.D. (M.A. and ABD with strong credentials may be considered), strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrated success working as a member of an instructional team. A candidate with a creative, dynamic, and easy-going approach will be an excellent fit with the Portuguese school. Talent for extra curricular activities will be a plus.
