Job Description
The Role:
The Paint Process Engineer/Tech Support will work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. Skilled in equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of parts. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as independent judgment. Will be responsible for a small crew of GM UAW hourly employees.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
  • SORs and project management for tools, stations or specific technologies
  • Typically, part of a larger effort or project
  • Manufacturing process definition
  • Sequence of operations
  • Support human factors consideration.
  • Support efficient material flow.
  • Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high-quality parts.
  • Providing technical directions to and oversight of outside vendor sources
  • Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with paint systems, paint application processes, or troubleshooting automated/robotic paint equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive results.
  • Ability to lead and manage a small team of hourly UAW employees in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, including weekends and overtime as required

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience working as a Paint Process Engineer, Paint Equipment Engineer, or Paint Equipment Installer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with paint systems, paint application processes, and troubleshooting automated or robotic paint equipment.
  • Skilled Trades experience with a strong understanding of industrial maintenance, equipment reliability, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail).
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Knowledge of paint shop processes, including E-coat, primer, basecoat, clearcoat, and paint quality systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
