Job description

We are looking for self-motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to teach life skills, one to one, with individuals who reside in Genesee and Orleans Counties. Primary responsibilities consist of teaching and providing guidance on how to complete household tasks such as cleaning, shopping, finances, cooking, etc., as well as socialization skills. This position holds a vital role in helping individuals with intellectual disabilities to have the ability to live independently, make community connections, and to be able to continue to grow in all areas of their lives. Starting pay is $19.25 an hour for part time and full time positions.
We are currently hiring Community Habilitation DSP's for our Supportive Living Department in Genesee & Orleans Counties.
AVAILABLE POSITIONS:
  • Full-time, Part-time, or Per Diem
  • Schedule Varies
  • Monday through Friday, with an occasional Saturday
  • Mix of Day Shift and Split Shift (Day/Even)

WHAT WOULD I BE DOING?
  • Working one to one with people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, teaching daily living skills.
  • Being involved with attending and scheduling outings in the surrounding area.
  • Assisting with contacting individuals, programs, and/or families, as needed.
  • Transporting individuals with agency vehicle.
  • Documenting all program data accurately and timely.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DSP:
  • A valid NYS driver's license with an acceptable driving record, per agency policy, and reliable transportation to and from work is required.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • The ability to think outside of the box creating new, creative, and different ideas
  • The physical ability to transfer and lift people with mobility restraints.
  • The drive to help others with personal goals and work in a team environment.
  • The ability to efficiently use a computer.
