Job description

Job Description We are seeking an experienced Generator Technician to maintain, diagnose, repair, install, and commission diesel and gas generator systems, ensuring reliable emergency power for commercial and industrial customers. You will manage service calls from diagnosis through resolution, working independently and as part of a field team. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and servicing of diesel and gas generators.

Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in generators, ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches), control systems, and power distribution equipment. Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to troubleshoot and complete repairs. Use diagnostic tools, test meters, and load banks to evaluate system performance and verify repairs.

Install, commission, start up, and load test emergency power systems. Respond to field service and emergency calls, completing work orders and service reports accurately. Communicate technical findings, repair recommendations, and job status clearly to customers and internal teams.

Requirements 5+ years of experience as a Generator Technician or similar field service role. Proven experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel and gas generators. Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills, including control panels, wiring, engines, fuel, and cooling systems.

Ability to read technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals. Proficient with diagnostic equipment, test meters, and load banks. Strong communication, customer service, time management, and independent field service skills.

Preferred Experience with multiple generator brands in commercial or industrial environments. Knowledge of ATS installation, testing, and repair. Familiarity with local and national electrical codes for emergency power systems.

Field service experience, including scheduling, documentation, remote troubleshooting, basic computer skills, and OEM diagnostic software. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Technical trade school, apprenticeship, or training in electrical, mechanical, or diesel technology preferred.
