About Wildfire Defense Systems, Inc.
Wildfire Defense Systems, Inc. ("WDS") is a Qualified Insurance Resource (QIR) operating the largest private sector wildfire service in the nation, encompassing a 22-state service area and specializing in wildfire education, loss prevention, and wildfire response services. Qualified Insurance Resources are defined as NWCG qualified or equivalent, wildland engines, tenders, hand crews, fire/liaison officers, and personnel working for or contracted by an insurance company with a mission to mitigate impacts on insured structures threatened by wildfire. WDS holds contracts with insurance companies to provide wildfire loss prevention services. WDS fields experienced, highly trained, safety-focused wildfire officers and fire personnel that hold a wide range of Federal Wildfire Incident Command position classifications necessary to meet or exceed all federal wildfire operation standards and codes including all requirements of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group ("NWCG") or equivalent. WDS is capable of providing more than 180 wildland engines and hundreds of fire personnel and support personnel. WDS has served large and small insurance clients since 2008.
Purpose and Scope of Position
The General Ledger Accountant will assist in maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded. Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Compiles financial data to aid the Corporate Controller, Assistant Controller, and more senior accountants in the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports as directed.
Organizational Relationship
This position reports to the Corporate Controller.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position may also help with other accounting responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Engage in project-based accounting tasks to ensure accuracy of financial project management.
  • Engage in General Ledger reconciliation processes and month end procedures.
  • Continued research and education in accounting software to increase efficiency.
  • Engage in analyses and improvements of existing departmental processes.
  • Create invoices according to company practices; submit invoices to customers.
  • Accurately receive, manage and record transactions within the Accounts Payable process.
  • Accurately generate, manage and record transactions within the Accounts Receivable process.
  • Manage import and audit of company charge card software to ensure accuracy and timely reporting
  • Manage General Ledger recording of Capital Expenditures and project spending
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Job Requirements
Basic Qualifications (i.e. education, certifications, etc...)
  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field of study
  • 1 to 3 years' experience in accounting or finance is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel is preferred.
  • Additional training will be provided to ensure the success of the candidate.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15-lbs.
