Job description

As the nation's premier tire distributor, ATD's coast-to-coast distribution network provides approximately 80,000 customers across the U.S. and Canada with rapid and frequent delivery of high quality tires, custom wheels and shop supplies.

Position Description: 

Assigned to the RDC guard shack, the Gate Keeper facilitates all inbound and outbound traffic entering or exiting the shipping yard. Verifies and closely updates all inbound and outbound traffic logs to ensure accurate reporting of all containers, trailer, and seal ID number information. Monitors all incoming carriers, vendors, and maintenance vehicles to review and authorize entrances. Communicates with dispatcher on a regular basis to inform of all incoming trailers to ensure accurate trailer pool. Tracks arrival and departure of daily "Hub & Spoke" trailers to ensure on time performance. Notifies Management of any delayed arrivals/departures immediately. Responsible for adhering to all company policies and department procedures and reporting any non-compliance by team members to operations manager/supervisor. Performs other duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all company policies and safety procedures; report any non-compliance by team members to Supervisor/Manager promptly.
  • Communicate regularly with the dispatcher and inbound coordinator to update on all incoming trailers to ensure accurate trailer pool management.
  • Monitor all incoming carriers, vendors, and maintenance vehicles to review and authorize entrance into the Regional Distribution Center secured area; assign drop slots accordingly.
  • Obtain copies of truck driver licenses (DLs) on weekends or after hours for drivers picking up loaded trailers destined for designated Distribution Centers; staple copies of DLs to the appropriate bill of lading form.
  • Receive all remaining Bill of Lading forms from the dispatcher daily that have not been picked up by carriers in the afternoon for monitoring the following day as needed.
  • Receive and hold all FedEx and UPS packages delivered at the guard shack for proper handling; review and sign all carrier acknowledgment forms and forward paperwork to the inbound coordinator.
  • Track arrival and departure of daily "Hub & Spoke" trailers to ensure on-time performance; immediately notify Management of any delayed arrivals or departures.
  • Use radio communications to inform Management, administrative staff, yard jockey, and dispatcher of all visitors entering and/or exiting the RDC's security area.
  • Utilize and update Yard Management system to input all inbound and outbound trailers arriving and leaving the yard.
  • Verify and closely update all inbound and outbound traffic logs to ensure accurate reporting of containers, trailers, and seal ID number information.
