Job description

Overview
Technical Designer - Catalyst Brands
The Technical Designer provides technical expertise to evaluate apparel merchandise in terms of style, measurement and construction to achieve the appropriate fit, quality and design interpretation for the manufacturer to follow.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Fit Ownership: Manages the garment fit process, including conducting live model/mannequin sessions, evaluating construction, and analyzing pattern/grading revisions. Collaborates with Design and PD to recommend construction alternatives based on fit history.
  • Cross-functional Partnership: Work closely with Design, Sourcing and Merchandising teams to align on fit intent, meet calendar deadlines and maintain brand standards.
  • Technical Documentation: Create, maintain, and manage detailed tech packs, including: measurement specs, tolerances, grading, fit photos, technical sketches and construction details in Flex PLM.
  • Vendor & Overseas Communication: Primary contact for factories on technical and fit compliance; resolves fit-related and construction issues with International Buying Office and factories to meet development and production timelines.
  • Quality & Fit Optimization: Enhances garment fit and quality by analyzing customer feedback, performing competitive research, and conducting block reviews.
  • Fit Sample Tracking & Logistics: track vendor-sent samples, open packages, log in received samples, set-up and send reoccurring fit invites, measure/prepare/steam samples prior to fitting, keep and maintain organized sample storage by season.

Qualifications:
Education
  • Degree in Technical Design, Fashion Design, or related field is preferred.

Experience
  • 3-5 years of Technical Design experience required.
  • Experience working with multiple channels: wholesale, discounters etc. is preferred.

Technical Skills
  • Deep knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, fabric performance, manufacturing process.
  • PLM systems experience (Flex PLM preferred), Adobe applications (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Excel. CLO 3D and Gerber software training is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, trained eye for proportion, balance and overall aesthetic.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, especially important for vendor/factory correspondence.
