Main purpose of the Fabric R&D Associate role:


This is a full time role for a highly organized candidate who can be the key communicator to other departments and will thrive in a fast-paced work environment. The Fabric R&D Associate will be responsible for the execution of the current R&D process and goals while maintaining quality and costs that meet company expectations and standards. This position will utilize his or her problem-solving, multi-tasking and communication skills to help oversee the day to day development of fabrics.


Major Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Manage fabric allocations and communication specifically a segment

  • Manage and track fabric swatches and provide accurate cost estimates to help guide Design

  • Assist with negotiating cost for fabrics

  • Prioritize/notify fabrics based on L/T and delivery

  • Partner with PD and Design to ensure fabric MOQs and cost are within targets

  • Maintain data accuracy across all platforms and departments

  • Manage all fabrics for multiple brands and/or category

  • Execute fabric emails and development

  • Manage costing processes for a specific brand and/or category

  • Name fabric qualities and assist other team members if needed

  • Problem solve fabric issues with minimal input by Fabric R&D Manager

  • Potentially cultivate and train assistants which includes refining their development process

  • Be a key point of contact and communicator between all cross-functional departments

  • Cultivate, interview, train and manage junior members

  • Complete ad-hoc tasks and assignments as directed by management


Required Competencies:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4+ year experience working in Fabric R&D, Product Development or similar role

  • Degree in Fashion, Product Development or similar field

  • Knowledge of textiles, sourcing, and development

  • Excellent computer skills including Excel and Google Docs


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with a contemporary brand highly preferred

  • Experience with costing and overseas vendor communication

This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience and training, licensure, and certifications.


A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range is $70k.
