This role requires attention to detail, patience, and strong problem-solving skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Gaming Qa position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Gaming QA, you need keen attention to detail, troubleshooting abilities, and a good understanding of gaming platforms and software development processes. Familiarity with bug tracking tools like JIRA, test case management systems, and certifications in quality assurance methodologies are often valuable. Job description

QA EngineerJob Summary

We are seeking a collaborative and forward-thinking experienced QA Engineer to join our established QA team as our resident Automation Specialist. You will be joining a close-knit team of QA Engineers. While your peers possess deep domain knowledge and excel at manual exploratory testing, our current processes need enhanced automation. This position is located in Seattle and requires two days per week in office.

You will act as a specialized peer to the team. Your mission is to design, build and deploy our test automation framework, while collaborating with the existing team to identify automation opportunities. You will also act as a mentor, creating accessible pipelines and training QA peers to write and execute light automation scripts over time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Framework Architecture: Evaluate, select, and build robust test automation frameworks that integrate seamlessly across our web and mobile game environments.
  • Peer Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner closely with QA team and leadership to understand current manual test suites, identify high-value regression tests to automate, and lead training sessions to upskill the team in basic automation scripting.
  • Hybrid Execution: Balance framework development with manual exploratory testing alongside the team, ensuring a smooth user experience and high-quality releases.
  • CI/CD Integration: Work with Ops and Engineering to integrate automated tests into our deployment pipelines under the guidance of the QA Manager.
  • Defect Management: Author clear, highly detailed bug reports and collaborate closely with developers and your QA team using Jira to drive resolutions.
  • Cross-team Collaboration: Work closely with engineering partners to integrate quality into the development lifecycle.
  • Continual Improvements: Audit the software development lifecycle to guarantee alignment with approved plans, customer needs, regulatory expectations and Quality System standards
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 6+ years of software QA experience, with a proven track record of building automation frameworks from scratch.
  • Team-First Mindset: Outstanding interpersonal skills with a genuine passion for peer mentoring, coaching, and creating accessible documentation for manual testers.
  • Tech Stack Alignment: Strong programming/scripting proficiency in at least one (ideally more) of our core languages: JavaScript, Java, or C#.
  • Cross-Platform Testing: Experience testing web and mobile applications across multiple browsers and devices.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience or familiarity testing within game engines, specifically Unity (e.g., Unity Test Framework, AltTester) or the Haxe ecosystem.
  • Experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman) and backend data verification.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration tools (e.g., Jenkins).
  • Knowledge of project management tools such as Jira.
What We Offer

At FlowPlay, we pride ourselves on being a company that we all love working for. We have been regularly featured among the 20 best places to work in Seattle (according to Seattle Business Magazine), and our average tenure in the company is almost 8 years. Despite delivering large and successful games with global reach, we have a small team culture where each colleague's impact can be felt. In surveys, our employees report high satisfaction rates, and say that they enjoy getting to know and work with each other and value working on games that bring people joy.

  • Autonomy to shape our modern automation strategy and toolset from day one.
  • A supportive, established QA team structure with clear management and a collaborative culture.
  • Competitive salary and performance bonuses.
  • Fully-paid medical (PPO), dental, and vision plans
  • Accrued PTO and 12 holidays annually, PTO increases with tenure
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • A hybrid work culture with two in-office days per week (Monday / Wednesday)
  • Catered meals
  • A fully stocked pantry of snacks and drinks
  • Fun social gatherings
  • A 401k plan with 4% company matching
  • Long-term disability
  • Life insurance
  • FSA plan for Medical and Dependent Care

Salary: $110,000 - $120,000 + bonus + equity.
